Overview of The Reasons Why Antarctica Should Be Closed

Antarctica is one of the unique places in the world. There are many beautiful things to see and enjoy: white icebergs, little penguins, southern lights… Tourists admire this place and sometimes do whatever it takes to go Antarctica. Ecotourism companies provide them with this opportunity, but it can be a big problem for the Earth. The southernmost place of the world Antarctica should be closed to the tourists for several reasons: human activities can affect climate, fauna and flora can disappear, some accidents can take place on the way to Antarctica.

Firstly, settlement of people in Antarctica can cause pollution. According to Union of Concerned Scientists, human activities release pollution and the atmosphere alters it. Because of these activities ozone depletion and global warming happen. When natural gas, coal are burned for running our cars, they spread carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Ozone layer is in upper atmosphere and adsorb UV radiation which comes from the Sun, prevents radiation from touching the Earth’s surface. Last years, these activities in Antarctica has been increased so, ozone hole has been growing lately.

Secondly, fauna and flora can disappear because of tourists, even some animals are in danger like Northern Royal Albatross, Southern Giant Petrel, Southern Right Whale, Blue Whale. Some years later, penguins will also be in this list. They are killed for their fur, their meat, their oil. People use their oil for lightening, fuel, tanning leather. They make clothing from their fur. Because of it some kind of penguins like Emperor penguin, King penguin are in danger. A few years later, fauna and flora of Antarctica will be disappear and there will be no return.

Finally, accidents can happen in Antarctica and that can lead to death of the tourists. Even nowadays these accidents happen. Most commons are shipwrecks, fire, and aircrafts. In 2008, 2012 fire caused accidents. In 2008, in Progress Station, Antarctica fire caused an accident. There were 2 serious burn injuries. In 2010, near the McMurdo Station (5 confirmed, 17 missing dead), in 2012 Antarcticain Ross Sea (3 missing presumed dead, 7 burn injuries, 2 serious) shipwrecks happened. In 2010 near the Dumont d’Urville Station, Terre Adelie, Antarctica, 2013 Mount Elizabeth, Antarctica aircrafts happened.

In conclusion, these reasons are enough to close Antarctica to tourists. Tourists can cause change of climate, disappearance of fauna and flora. In addition, these journeys are also dangerous for tourists. People have to take care of themselves and our planet Earth. They have no right to kill these innocent animals and ruin this beauty. It is the only place we can live. Please, do not ruin the world of ours.
