Statistics on young African American men revealed that deaths, incarceration, and school dropouts among African Americans take a greater hit on the men compared to the women. According to Patterson, young black men seem to die at a higher rate of sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS. Likewise, they will more than likely be the casualties of murder at each other's hands, or imprisoned, dependent on drugs, or dropout at impressively higher rates than African American women (Patterson 2). Black women in today’s society face greater challenges compared to their white counterparts. Reasons such as the existence of a matriarchal system have made black women experience hardships in their day everyday lives deeming the ladies to be the sole breadwinners in the household. Making it as a black woman in America involves facing a number of challenges such as coping with isolation in white communities, managing workplace stress, and the coping with the class struggles of the African American community.

The black American community has a white collar class and a substantially bigger destitution class. In “Coping in Isolation,” the author states that despite the fact that without a doubt the measure of the African American working class is developing quickly, the quantity of these needy individuals is expanding so rapidly. The expansion in people of color in the workplace has little impact on the American statistic impact (Terhune 3). Bell highlighted that the problems faced by black families were majorly due to the fact that black families had a matriarchal family structure (102). Research indicates that the black working class are having less kids than their white partners; these kids will more than likely be female. The female children are sent to a portion of the best schools making ladies operating at a higher educational level than the males. Majority of darker complexion ladies spend various years searching for a reasonable mate while others select single parenthood. Due to personal issues within the black community, darker skinned women are usually the lastly chosen as domestic partners if they decide to stay in their home communities. Single, black, white collared class ladies think that its difficult to keep up families as huge as their partners in two-worker families. Were as other African American ladies wed outside of the race due to the 'male lack' operating at a profit race.

Many Oregon counties have little or no black population. Black experiences and uneasiness prompted many to leave Oregon. Carol observed that the absence of diversity serves as a drawback to many organizations and institutions leading to negative implications for businesses (4). There have been efforts to increase the diversity of institutions in Oregon lately, which have led to a number of black women joining learning institutions and organizations in Oregon. Black women in Oregon are automatically forced to develop coping mechanisms in a predominantly white condition with a background marked by bigotry and preference. Studies have demonstrated that when African American women enter white scholastic foundations either as understudies or personnel, they are looked with unjust treatment, underestimation, sexism, and prejudice. Black women are most likely to be unfairly treated in terms of promotion and tenure, experience withdrawal from the scholastic network and progress toward becoming focuses of separation. To adapt to distance and separation, African American women have concocted systems that will empower them to survive such conditions. Dependence on help systems has ended up being a compelling method for dealing with stress. Camille found that African Americans depended on amass determined self image qualities when faced with upsetting circumstances (243). Another system is the utilization of socialization messages. Darker complexion guardians and families fill in as the primary line of safeguard for darker complexion kids. For example, groups such as #ForBlackGirls or GirlsGoingGlobal have been made today to help and assist young black girls in society with morale, influence, and a simple confidence booster.

Racial socialization messages have represented the expanded confidence and racial pride in African American ladies. Specific stressors in the lives of African American ladies mirror their particular history, sociocultural experience, and position in the public eye. The typical stressors of the workplace might be unendurable in light of the fact that darker complexion ladies can without much of a stretch be singled out and treated uniquely in contrast to their associates. As a black woman you tend to go through more difficulties than a little bit in today’s world. Safe spaces have been created as a way to vent about the treatment we receive in communities and the workplace for our convenience and comfortability. Religion has helped African American women for a long time as a way to cope with the added stress of trying to maintain a positive lifestyle.
