Camping and Its Types in The USA

Whether as single or as a family, camping is a great and interesting activity for adventure lovers. It has an enormous physical, mental, emotional impact on individuals.

The history of camping began three thousand years ago, when military forces camped during wars. It was not as sophisticated as it is now with all the fancy and well-furnished caravans.

Regarding its considerable amount of positive impact on campers, camping across the world rising in popularity significantly. According to the North American Camping Report 2018, approximately 77 million households in the USA has someone who camps at least occasionally. These numbers are still increasing day by day with the greater facilities of camping changing satisfactorily.

What is Camping

Camping is defined as an outdoor activity which usually takes place in the nature. It is the activity of spending holidays living in a tent. Those who practise this activity are known as “campers”. Campers usually leave their homes and spend one or more nights in tents enjoying the nature. It often involves the use of tents and caravans too. This could also be considered as a cheap form of accommodation services.

Camping sites are known to be sites where the traveler or tourist comes along with his or her own accommodation facilities, such as tents. It can therefore be said that it is a type of self-catering accommodation. Camping sites usually go hand in hand with some additional recreational services, such as kitchen facilities, toilet and shower facilities, and sauna facilities in some cases.

Types of Camping

Nowadays camping has become popularly a great choice as recreational activity for campers. Depending on the existence of several types of interests and activities of campers, camping is wide ranging. It ranges from historical to youth camping, and practiced by different age groups. It could take place at a same or different area, during the different times of year. Camping is mostly practised in open areas where campers feel closure to the nature. Some places are built with accommodation, kitchen, shower facilities intentionally for family camping or a particular group. Few categories of camping are summer camps, winter camps, religious camps, space camps, language camps etc. Few of them are briefly discussed below.

Summer camps generally take place during the summer season when the weather is not very cold to cope with. Most of the school organize educational camping during the summer period. Typically summer camping could be described as adventure camping. This camping features a lot of hard activities such as hiking, rafting, climbing etc.

Winter camps are generally practiced during the winter. It is quite challenging due the fact of cold weather. If the camping is not designed at a suitable location, other equipment such as tent, heater etc are needed to be considered for the camping. Furthermore well balanced food need to be carried to warm the body temperature enough.

Camp with a religious focus is typically categorize as religious camping. This type of camping intentionally designed to form religious faith and stimulate spirituality to the creator. With the other activities such as arts and crafts, recreational activities, sessions or discussion on religious books are also practiced on this type of camping.

Space camps are originally designed for educational experiences that brightens the application of science, technology, engineering and mathematics for children and adults. Children participate in this program to enhance their knowledge. Adults practice as preparatory for real space camping. Space camps in Florida and California, US Space and Rocket Center Foundation are just a few example that provide space camping.

Family Camps are practised with the members of the family in a campground. Few campgrounds are equipped with some essential facilities such as accommodation, kitchen, toilet and shower facilities. Similarly there are few campgrounds that are great for experiencing the nature closely near the countrysides of the countries. Usually family members set out for camping during a vacation that suits their time.

Garden Camping is a quite new trend in camping. It is normally located in a garden of an owner in a sense to book, charge and rent the campsite to campers. This is also known as ‘Camp in my Garden’. These places could be at rural or urban areas. Campers gather the information about these places through their network’camp in my garden’. These places are provided with pleasant facilities, thus it is often called as Glamping, which means glamorous camping. Glamping are great to enjoy with family members.

Back packing camping are physically demanding pattern of adventure camping. In this camping, a camper carries all the belongings in a backpack and hikes to a back country camping destination. Belongings that includes tent, sleeping bag, cookware and clothing. Campers have little choice to select the only necessary thing as that would be carried on throughout the camping. Generally backpacking camping ranges from one night trip to multi-day trips. Adventurous activities such as tramping, trekking, hiking are carried out during this form of camping.
