Discussion on Whether Society Can Function Without Respect

Respect is knocking before entering. Respect is helping someone up when they fall or helping them when they drop their books. In a society, this is the most important thing to have. To respect someone is to value that person's ideas, feelings, space, or privacy. It is important to treat others with respect in order to have positive relationships. If you treat them with kindness, they will be kind back. Respect plays a role in our everyday lives.

Respecting others is a silent way to express our feeling for them. It’s an unspoken way of communication which builds unshaken and strong relations between people. When a person shows respect for someone, then it means that the person has some value for them. This is one of the major qualities to have within a society because if no one respects or values anyone else's opinion or thoughts, the world would just be in a constant war. It is very important to respect one another in any society. It is impossible to have a peaceful society when one side judges the other side to be unworthy. For any society to work there has to be an overriding high regard for one another, even if there are disagreements. How can you be helpful to them when you feel they have nothing to add? How can you have a high opinion of someone who views you as unworthy and value-less?

It is important to remember that respect goes both ways. When you respect someone you will recognise the value in them. The natural response on that person's half is to respect you in return. They will feel that this person really does add value to my life. They bring out the best in me. When you do this for someone they will view you as very valuable to them and they will develop a deep respect for you. Jobs and relationships become unbearable if we receive no respect from them. All around us you can see the call for respect. Environmentalist call for respect to nature. Pro life protesters demands we respect human life and stop abortion.
