Canada’s government can be described in four ways because it’s so complex. It can be defined as a constitutional monarchy, a party system, a representative democracy, and a federal government. A constitutional monarchy is when a country is associated with a monarch, a king or queen, while the actual governing of the country is done by an elected body. A federal government is a system that divides up power between a strong national government and smaller local governments. A representative democracy is a system where citizens of a country vote for government representatives to handle legislation and ruling the country in their account. A party system is a group of people who have common goals and beliefs about how the government should run the country, province, or town.
Canada is a constitutional monarchy because the actual governing of the country is done by an elected body while associated with a royal figure. It has a federal government because of its large size. It was made to make sure that the needs of the country as a whole aren’t jeopardized by the needs of the distinct territory. It represents a representative democracy by Canada electing representatives to do the governing for them. Canada’s main political parties are the Progressive conservatives, the Liberals, the New Democratic Party, and the Bloc Quebecois. In Canada, there are three levels of governmental power. At the top is the federal government, who looks out for the needs of Canada. In the middle is Provincial level of government, where each province and territory has a government to look out for its own special necessities.
At the bottom is the Municipal level, and it consists of different cities and towns having their own type of government to look after their special needs. In Canada the highest elected power is the Prime Minister, who is currently Justin Trudeau. In order to become the Prime Minister, the leader of the political party who wins the most seats is summoned by the governor general and then sworn in as prime minister soon after the election.
Qualities of good prime minister are accomplished politicians, a former cabinet minister, and sometimes accomplished in a field outside of politics.
