As a matter of fact, gang involvement is also one of the causes of street racing that must not be underestimated. Teenagers nowadays would not want to be left out because they will care about how other people think of them. Teenagers think that it acceptable to be powerful and to be part of a large group. Those who indulged in negative activities usually big groups or gangs. Some teenager would like to experience new excitement. Sometimes, they do not get approval in any group as they do not have a strong personality. Due to peer group rejection, they commit crimes to manifest their masculinity to gain entry into those seemingly cool and sophisticated gangs.
Several studies (Mansor & Mat, 2011) have confirmed that teenagers which involve in gangs engage in street racing to release their stress. Parents have give children a large amount of expectations and this become a burden for children. For example, parents always compete their children with others’ children especially exams results. This may cause children face the sleeping difficulty; Thus, they may involve in illegal racing to release stress. In fact, street racing not only caused by family issue but also caused by peer pressure. As a result of these causes that effect individuals, it will make those delinquents get into a difficult life. Teenagers who commit a crime will undergo some effects that they are probably unable to estimate.
For example, if they accidentally crushed into somebody, they may lose their freedom while being imprisoned. Have a background record like this will definitely affect their future because no employers with a right mind are willing to hire an ex-murderer. Their studies will be neglected since they stop studying just because of feeling bored. Illegal street racing known as dangerous activity and it may cause death to those teenagers who are engaged in and the road users. For example, some delinquents which want to dodge from the police road block so they increase their speed and cause accident happened. In short, teenagers who partake illegal street racing may undergo some negative effects.
As shown above, there are great quantity of causes of illegal street racing such as lack of attention from parents, poverty or financial burden and gang involvement. Besides, it also affects those delinquents get into a problematic life. Experts say that focusing on early intervention and prevention is the key to reducing this kind of juvenile crime. Therefore, not only parents have the responsibility to ensure teenagers receive nurture and love, teenagers’ awareness is also of utmost importance in counteracting juvenile lawlessness.
