The essay explores the character of SpongeBob SquarePants, a beloved animated character from the television series of the same name. SpongeBob is described as a positive, outgoing, and well-dressed sea sponge who lives in Bikini Bottom with his pet snail Gary. The essay provides an overview of SpongeBob's characteristics, including his friendliness, optimism, loyalty, and gullibility, which have endeared him to both children and adults.
It highlights SpongeBob's strong work ethic and his love for his job as a fry cook at the Krusty Krab, despite his comically terrible driving skills. SpongeBob's sweet and selfless nature is emphasized, particularly in his interactions with the often rude Squidward and his visits to his grandma.
The essay also delves into SpongeBob's innocent and playful side, noting his love for jellyfishing with Patrick and his tendency to engage in random and silly behavior. However, it also touches on his sensitivity and emotional nature, recounting instances where he cried easily in response to criticism or harsh words.
The character I chose for this essay is SpongeBob Squarepants. SpongeBob is a very positive, outgoing, and a well- dressed sea sponge. He lives in the Bikini Bottom with his pet snail Gary. His neighbors are his best friend Patrick Star, and Squidward Tentacles. He works as a fry cook at the Krusty Krab with Squidward and his boss Mr. Krabs. He was created by Stephen Hillenburg, and is played by Tom Kenny. His creator was a marine biologist and a science teacher.
SpongeBob is friendly, optimistic, and loyal. His character was based on Charlie Chaplin, Jerry Lewis, Laurel and Hardy, and Pee Wee Herman. He is very gullible and makes many children and even adults laugh at the jokes with all the years the show has been on air. “This is not your average everyday darkness. This is…ADVANCED darkness! Hey, if I close my eyes it doesn’t seem so dark.” This quote was said by SpongeBob in the thirty-fifth episode in the first season called “Rock Bottom”. This is one of the many lines that made people laugh during the first year this show was on air and is just a weird line in general.
Some other characteristics of SpongeBob are that SpongeBob is very hard working, selfless, and sweet. He is always on time for work and he is in love with his job. He is a horrible driver but that doesn’t stop him from being in drivers’ education and taking his test every chance he gets. “You need 600 to pass, you got 6.” Said Mrs. Puff to SpongeBob in the seventeenth episode in the second season called “No free rides” shows how much of a horrible driver he actually is. Even though he is able to drive a big rock and a sandwich car like he has been for years. A way that shows he is a sweet person is that he never holds grudges towards people, especially Squidward. Squidward is always so rude and mean to SpongeBob but that doesn't stop him from being so nice. Another reason it shows he is so sweet, is everytime he goes to visit his grandma. He is always loving towards her and gives her a bunch of hugs and kisses. All though he really goes because he loves her cookies, he does show he loves his grandma.
SpongeBob is very innocent and loves to be silly and have fun. On his days off of work he likes to go jellyfishing with Patrick. They even like going to Sandy’s house just so they can annoy her, but they enjoy it. He even had this very extraordinary jellyfishing net that he named O’Reilly. He can even be really random at times and just saying the most random things even if they don’t make any sense at all. “Remember, licking doorknobs is illegal on other planets.” SpongeBob said this as Mr. Krabs was thinking of a flashback. This was on the forty-sixth episode of the third season.
He can also be very sensitive and emotional. Someone can say one little thing and he cries his eyes out. One time he cried so much that he made a sweater out of his tears. This was shown is season 2 episode 4 called “dying for pie”. Another time he was really emotional was in season 1 episode 5, when Spongebob and Squidward were delivering a pizza to a customer and he yelled at SpongeBob for forgetting his drink that he never ordered. The guy was so rude to SpongeBob that when he got back to where Squidward was standing, SpongeBob was shaking so bad because he was trying to stop himself from crying. Even though that did not work out, and he bursted out crying shows he does not take getting yelled at very well and is sensitive. So in conclusion SpongeBob is like a rollercoaster of happiness and sadness most of the time, but can be very random and just plain dumb.
