Christian View on Homosexuality and Same Sex Marriage

Many individuals claim to be followers of Christ, it’s a normal statement or claim you would hear from individuals who profess a love for Jesus. This love for Christ is demonstrated in the life we live one that should mirror the life of the greatest example that has ever walked this earth. While we are not to judge each other “Judge not for you shall be judge” (Matt 7:1-3) there are some guidelines that would keep us on a certain path. Jesus was a humble individual during his earthly mission he was focus on helping others, meeting the needs of others and pointing them to the truth and righteousness. His ministry was not about positions, power, and money or fame those things he avoided. As followers of Jesus we are to bear certain fruits those would be a good indication of mirroring the master Christ himself. Paul says in the book of Galatians we are to be led by the Spirit, and not the flesh. “For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God”. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” (Gal 5: 13- 17) There is definitely a conflict in both life styles there is no similarity or common ground to be found they are two completely different life styles, one that leads to a pathway of destruction and the other to a path of eternal life.

However in today’s current society the things that were unacceptable years ago has become normal, most individuals are not offended or turned off by these evil behaviours. Our tolerance for sin has become so high that we cannot separate right from wrong anymore. The wrong in our world are taking precedence over doing what is right. Some of these common practise are, same sex marriages, abortions, adultery, fornication, drugs, drunkenness, violence, these do sound familiar to what Paul was talking about in the book of Galatians. But before Paul time, way back in the Old Testament the earth was evil and wicked I refer to the time of Noah, God wanted to destroy them for the evil they were doing, another city with destruction because of the evil that prevail throughout the land was Sodom and Gomora, the same practices that occurred then are the same practices that area mirrored today. Our society has become so concerned with offending others and trampling on their rights, rather than be concerned with the trampling of the law of God. Much emphasis is placed on the rights of others, even the moral values that was once considered a standard to uphold has go through the window. Human rights are rights essential to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. Human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more. Everyone is entitled to these rights, without discrimination. While this set a great platform to protect the vulnerable among us, others are crying out for being discriminated because of their sexual preference and want justice and freedom of right to practise what they feel and believe they have the right to openly and publicly do so without any form of discrimination.

People of same sex and gender identity are experiencing violence, abuse, arrest and inequality. They are being persecuted, mistreated and even killed because of publicly coming out of the closet. As a Christian we cannot condone any form of violence or mistreatment against another human being. However holding the bible as the principle guide to the way we should live is equally important. Sin distorted this world real happiness the father of lies Lucifer made everything God created to appear to be inadequate and produce a substitute that seem to be more appealing. The laws of man cannot supersede the laws of God, God created man in his own images, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them. We were made in the image of God reflecting him as creator, God knew us from the foundation of this world. As creator he design us for a specific intention, homosexuality and same sex does not reflect the image of God. If the Bible is your standard for morality, it’s almost impossible to believe that God views this lifestyle choice as good. Homosexuality/ lesbianism/bisexuality/transgender/same sex marriage all of these are a result of sin, just as any other sin that man commit. Homosexual whose sexual liking has been reversed preferring persons of the same sex does not follow the natural order of creation. The question has been asked how someone becomes homosexual, there is not a specific cause that can be identified for this alternative lifestyle. But there are some factors that have contributed to an individual preference.

What is common in most male homosexuals is the behaviour may be learned rather than chosen. The absence of a father figure, with whom was sex introduce, did they find it pleasurable. There is no clear pattern for its development but there are some common elements that help identify its development. Today our society is being forced or pressured to accept this alternative life style and same sex marriage a natural way of life. Satan agenda is simply to seek kill and destroy, he wants to ensure that man does not have the opportunity to acknowledge or worship Christ as the supreme creator of this universe. He will do all in his power to lead men away from God making him look like an unjust, uncaring , unforgiving God who just breaths damnation upon anyone who disobeys his commands. This alternative life style did not originate with the creator of heaven and earth God had a wonderful life for his precious creation, whom was created in his image and likeness. God design man and woman to be different yet were made to complement each other. Their bodies are obviously different, there physiological, emotional and reproductive systems are opposite yet they were made for each other. A man and a woman coming together for marriage reflect the image of God, committing and caring for each other. This union was divinely instituted in the Garden of Eden, marriage was design to be permanent, where both parties would be join as one is a divine creation and a divine intention where God bless them and said “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28).

Homosexuality lifestyle undermines the model of the family that God intended for all this world. Today many churches are trying to show that a homosexual relationship and same sex marriages are in harmony with the word of God. They are defending these choices, as a matter of fact they are claiming there is nothing inconsistent with following Christ and being homosexual. The Metropolitan community Church is one such church with many congregations throughout the United States and Canada. Again society has been pressured to recognise these union as moral and natural, unfortunately the church has gotten caught up in this web of lies. We are definitely on the brink of the second return of Christ, and many false teachers’ and prophets shall come in His claiming truth but we were warned of these in (Mark 13: 21 – 23) . As a follower of Christ we need to love as Christ love, but it does not mean to comprise our faith, Jesus, died so all men can be saved and none should perish (John 3:16). We are to be the light that would shine in darkness, we are to love our fellowmen as Jesus did. God wants to forgive us of our sins, it does not matter what we have done, and all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans3:23). But if we confess our sins he is willing to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1John 1:9). We all have choices to make, it comes down to whom we shall serve, and unfortunately many will reject the plan of salvation, 2 Timothy 3:1-5, NIV. “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God — having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.”

God has a purpose for the family he intended from creation, families are close to God’s heart. In fact, they were His idea in the first place. From the beginning, when God created man, He said, “It is not good for man to be alone,” so He created woman as a “help-meet, suitable for him” (Genesis 2:18). “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth” (Genesis 1:28). Even after sin distorted the original plan, God had a plan for human kind and that plan included marriage and the family. It has not changed from the beginning and it would not change to the end, our heavenly father change not.
