Many problems in our lives aren’t within our control; overcoming obstacles is just part of growing up. The growing intensity of climate change, however, can be controlled and is not something that should be ignored. Climate change is caused by the greenhouse effect, which is when greenhouse gases absorb and trap heat in the earth’s atmosphere, changing the earth’s climate. You may wonder, where do these greenhouse gases come from? Well, the answer is simple and clear: human activities. Human activities such as burning fossil fuels for energy, as well as changes in land usage like deforestation, are the largest contributors to climate change. Many people think that climate change is just another rumor, or that we’ll do fine even if we ignore the many signs of climate change. However, research and predictions show that the Arctic is likely to become ice-free before 2050, as well as the fact that sea levels will rise 1-4 feet by 2100. These aren’t all of the problems that climate change has the potential to cause, and people are still denying the fact that climate change is a reality that we’re currently facing. This is why we need to take action in reversing the effects of this global issue before it’s too late. Today, I will be presenting to you the solution of mitigation. Mitigation is crucial in order to solve this issue as it’s one way to respond to climate change. Through supporting mitigation by using renewable energy sources and participating in a fundraiser, the earth can be saved.
Firstly, what is mitigation and why do we need it? Mitigation is reducing and stabilizing the levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which is why this method is important when addressing a solution to climate change. If the effects of climate change are to be countered, then the first step of the approach must be to recognize the causes of it and how to terminate the causes. The largest contributor to climate change is greenhouse gases, and mitigation involves reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases. Therefore, this method can be further developed when finding a solution for this issue. In addition, NASA once stated in an article that mitigation is one of the approaches when responding to climate change. Since mitigation is key to finding a solution to climate change, the following topics will provide more insight as to how I developed this concept so that it becomes a detailed and realistic plan.
A way of mitigation can be carried out by switching from non-renewable resources to renewable energy sources. A National Geographic article once stated that renewable energy sources such as solar and wind don't emit greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. Non-renewable resources, on the other hand, emit large amounts of harmful gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect when burned. Therefore, by replacing non-renewable resources with renewable resources, mitigation is achieved. Examples of renewable energy sources include solar energy, tidal energy, and wind energy. These types of energy can be harnessed with the use of different equipment, such as solar panels, tidal barrages, and wind turbines. If only using renewable resources for energy can resolve one of the largest sources of greenhouse gases, then this method of mitigation will greatly benefit the issue of climate change.
