In our current society, many strive to graduate high school with hopes of success in post-secondary. While some invest in their own businesses, join the armed forces, or remain unemployed, it is common for high school graduates to apply for college immediately after graduation. The main focus of discussion lately has been, is a college education truly worth it in the long run? Some believe a college degree will help to prospect into a successful career, while others believe it is only a horde of student loans and debt that will delay your life experiences. It has become well known that college comes with a price; you have to spend money in order to make money. The thousands spent on tuition and books tend to weigh heavily on families financially.
Students who attend college will not be able to move out, buy gifts, go on vacations, or help pay the bills for many years. While on the other hand, there are people who will be dealing with their student debts in the course of their lifetime. Those people will never have money saved up because of the student loans gradually increasing due to interest need to be paid off. With the price of school rising, the economy is making it more difficult for people to afford a college education. However, for those who are willing to go through the financial hardships, the college degree can be beneficial. College education raises the student’s chance of economic success in the future. According to The Economist, “college graduates earn about $17,500 more than their peers with only a high school diploma”. This fact provides a strong incentive for students to yearn for college, because it is advocated that the more educated will become further economically successful than ones that are less educated. Which all comes down to the person to control their level of education that will affect their amount of income in the future.
Not only is college a great place to help students explore what they want to do in the future, it allows people to experience the “real world”. It gives people a chance to explore their wide range of possible paths in their future. Some instantly become aware of which path they wish to follow, despite that, there are many who are not decisive of which path they should continue on with. For many others, college is a learning experience to further understand themselves as a person. By attending college, people are able to decide which path is the best fit for them, as many new life experiences occur during their college years.
