Do you ever wonder why college is so expensive and you have to pay college tuition? Well, free tuition college might help solve that problem. In the United States, over 4 years of college, tuition is about $20,000. Over the past few years, many colleges have risen college tuition by 1,120%. Many people believe college tuition should be free to help families and students who may not be able to afford college. On the other hand, many people believe college tuition shouldn’t be free because many students could take advantage of it and drop out. Both sides make great points on whether free tuition is worth it, but it is clear that free tuition college is more helpful and beneficial because it would help students and families who have lower-incomes, help the economy and society, and would leave students out of debt.

One reason that college tuition should be free for all students in the United States is that free tuition helps prevent students from leaving college with debt. Many colleges have increased college tuition within the past few years making tuition costs highly expensive for students. For example, the article, “ Should College Tuition Be Free? ” states, “ But for many working- and middle-class families, attending college is either too expensive to consider or it saddles students with debt for decades to come. Over the past 30 years, the average cost of college has increased by 1,120 percent. The result of this is that student debt has reached an astonishing $1.4 trillion nationwide, with students now graduating, on average, with upward of $35,000 in loans. ” This demonstrates that college tuition has risen over the years making tuition highly more expensive while leaving students in debt after graduating college. Additionally, the article “ Public college should be free ” stated, “ Many bright young people don’t go to college, don’t finish or graduate deeply in debt. With $1.3 trillion in student loans, Americans are carrying more student debt than credit card or auto-loan debt. That’s a tragedy for our young people and for our nation. ” This helps illustrate how many college students graduate with huge amounts of debt. Which makes a huge impact on their future as they try to give back that tuition cost. Many others may say free tuition college isn’t always free like it shows. Claiming we have to pay for the rooms, transportation, supplies, and many other essential items. Yes, free tuition college isn’t always free but it helps more than paying for all tuition costs. Free tuition college helps allow students to earn money for other school expenses and supplies. Overall, free college tuition is beneficial because it will help many students stay out of debt after graduating.

In addition, college tuition should be free for all students living in the U.S. because tuition-free college will help lower-income families and students. Over many years many young teens haven’t been able to get the opportunity to attend college due to the high college costs. Free tuition can help those who can’t go to college because of money management. For instance, the article “ Public College Should Be Free ” demonstrates, “ An important pathway to the middle class now runs through higher education, but rising costs are making it harder and harder for ordinary Americans to get the education they want and need. In 1978, it was possible to earn enough money to pay for a year of college tuition just by working a summer job that paid minimum wage. Today, it would take a minimum wage worker an entire year to earn enough to cover the annual in-state tuition at a public university. And that’s why so many bright young people don’t go to college, don’t finish, or graduate deeply in debt. ” This proves that many young students after high school don’t get a chance to go to college due to the fact that their family doesn’t have as much money. Just from 1978 until 2021 college tuition has increased a huge amount making it difficult for young scholars. But if college tuition was free many young scholars would get the opportunity to attend college. Furthermore, “ Tuition-Free College May Cost Less Than You Think ” states, “ Consider that tuition-free public college has already drawn many more low-income students into college in places where it is offered, such as the states of Tennessee and the city of Kalamazoo, Mich. If some of these students complete a degree, they are likely to increase their lifetime earnings. ” This helps convey that free tuition college has worked before helping many low-income students attend college in states like Tennessee. Although many people may say free tuition college is only going to help lower-income families and wouldn’t help other families. No, because the government can help both lower-class families and higher-class families by making tuition free for everyone. Making it fair for both sides of families and not just one side. To summarize, free college tuition is more helpful because free college tuition helps families who have a lower income get a chance to attend college.

Furthermore and lastly, college tuition should be free because tuition-free college would help the economy and society. There are so many beneficial reasons why free college tuition helps society and the economy like more opportunities for students to go to college who don’t have the money, helping more students out by graduating with little to zero debt, and many more. According to “ Tuition-Free College For Workers ” it states, “ Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan recently announced a plan to make essential pandemic workers in her state eligible for free college. ” This illustrates how tuition-free college is helping society by helping frontline workers during the pandemic get free college in the state of Michigan. To continue, the article

“Pete Buttigieg proposes free college for American earning under $100,000 in his new economic plan. ” states, “ Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg unveiled a plan Friday to make tuition at four-year public colleges free for families earning up to $100,000. The move is part of a package of new economic policies aimed at boosting the fortunes of middle- and working-class Americans. This demonstrates college free tuition helping families and students because Pete Buttigieg is presenting a plan to help families who make less than $100,000 get four years of free college tuition for students living in the United States. Even though many others say free college tuition isn’t going to help the economy and society because many students will take advantage of it. Yes, but free tuition college is going to help those students who can’t go to college get a chance to go. Free tuition college helps more students get a better education for a better future.

To conclude everything, free college tuition is more beneficial for families and students than non-free college tuition. Free college tuition has many beneficial positive effects than non-free college tuition which include helping many young adults and students graduate college without having a huge amount of debt to worry about. Additionally, tuition-free college helps lower-income families get the opportunity to attend college without paying for it, which helps them get a better future. Lastly, tuition-free college helps the society and economy in many different positive ways.
