Was the U.S justified for dropping the atomic bombs on Japan? This the question that has been controversial throughout history. The Pacific War started on December 7, 1941, and ended on October 24, 1945. The United States was the first country to make the atomic bomb. The first test of the atomic bomb was on July 16, 1945, at Trinity Site near Alamogordo, New Mexico. Soldiering on towards the end of a dark period of human history, the United States wanted to make a stance by dropping the atomic bombs on Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The two bombs, Nagasaki, and Hiroshima were dropped in August 1945. The United States decided to declare the Pacific War because of the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. The decision of dropping the atomic bombs on Japan was the best option for the United States because other options like giving warnings and keep sending more troops would not make Japan surrender.
One of the ways the United States was justified in dropping the atomic bombs on Japan because it saves more human lives. The United States lost around 418,000 lives both military and civilian during the war. Also, when Japan dropped in Pearl Harbor which caused 2,403 deaths and 1,178 wounded civilians. When, they attacked the United States, which the United States had to make a stance and attack back. Civilians in Japan were brainwashed and given the mentality to sacrifice themselves during the War. Many of those Japanese died by sacrificing themselves and killed other countries, troops. Overall, around 5,873,606 people were killed or missing during the Pacific War. Many Japanese civilians died but, they would’ve died because Japanese mentality to have them sacrificing themselves. The atomic bombings weren’t pleasant. In fact, they were horrible. But so would’ve been sending millions of Japanese and hundreds of thousands of American troops into the meat grinder when two bombs ended up being the closing chapter in this brutal fight.
The United States was justified because they tried giving warnings to Japan. They gave a warning to Japan about the atomic bombs when they successfully tested the atomic bomb. The United States informed Japan saying that if they do not surrender they will use their atomic weapons. Japan decided to not surrender. Which, then the United States sent out leaflets as warnings to Japanese cities. The first round of leaflets was distributed before the first atomic bomb in Hiroshima. These leaflets directly help Japan citizens to evacuate and encourage their leaders to surrender. This warning was made to prevent more deaths. That action of the United States sending warnings was the reason why dropping the bombs was justified. The United States sent out the atomic bomb at Hiroshima as an example, showing what can happen to all Japan if they do not surrender. The warning did not work and the example did not work, which lead to another drop of an atomic bomb. The second bomb Nagasaki was also sent leaflets. Until then Japan surrenders because of the atomic bombs.
Finally, the decision of dropping the atomic bombs on Japan was the best option because otherwise, Japan would not surrender. In 1945, Japan was pushed back to Japan to make them surrender with more troops. President Truman had only four options to try to make Japan surrender. President Truman four options were; the continuation of the war until Japan surrendered or to invade Japan with more troops and reinforcements. However, the United States feared that they will lose lives up to a million U.S soldiers. Either to drop the atomic bombs on a less populated Japanese city as a warning or to give a warning and demonstrate the atomic bomb to the Japanese. Although they will lose money making the atomic bomb when killing less Japanese citizens. Which then Japan can have more citizens turned into troops about 150,000 new troops in less than a year. In the other hand, the United States can end all with two atomic bombs.
In conclusion, the United States was justified in dropping the bombs because it made Japan surrender. The decision of dropping the atomic bombs on Japan was the best option for the United States because other options like giving warnings and keep sending more troops would not make Japan surrender. The United States would have lost about a million troops if they continued sending troops. The United States wanted to end the war already and tried to send in more warnings. The United States warned Japan about them dropping the atomic weapons if they do not surrender. A controversial is said that we killed innocent people, but before when we were going to drop the bombs we warned the citizens to evacuate. Those citizens decided to stay because of their belief of having a strong country. The United States was looking for justice after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The country was looking for options to get justice and that option is dropping the atomic bombs on Japan which ended the war.
