Discussion of Whether God Truly Exists

God exists because he makes sense of the origin of the universe, people have seen enough evidence about God to believe he exists, God sent his son to die on the cross for many people sins to come, but people still do not believe in God. God does not exist because some people do not someone they have never seen before, or they did not grow up in a christian based home. It is a matter of what people believe.

Many people wonder if God truly exists. According to William Craig, the author of one of the “Does God Exist?” articles says, “God makes sense of the origin of the universe”. He believes “In one of the most startling developments of modern science, we now have pretty strong evidence that the universe is not eternal in the past but had an absolute beginning about 13 billion years ago in a cataclysmic event known as the Big Bang. What makes the Big Bang so startling is that it represents the origin of the universe from literally nothing. For all matter and energy, even physical space and time themselves, came into being at the Big Bang”. In the Bible, in chapter 9, verse 6 in Nehemiah it says, “You alone are the LORD You have made the heavens, The heaven of heavens with all their host, The earth and all that is on it, The seas and all that is in them You give life to all of them And the heavenly host bows down before You” (The Bible). Even way back in the day people wondered who made all these wonderful things. In Acts chapter 4, verse 24, it says “And when they heard this, they lifted their voices to God with one accord and said, 'O Lord, it is You who MADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH AND THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM” (The Bible). God has made everything you could ever imagine, he made all humans in the image of himself.

Most people you see today may or may not believe in God. As the “Does God Exist” article says, “We believe in Him because He has given us enough evidence to prove that He exists. In other words, He hasn’t hidden Himself from us; instead, He has revealed Himself or made Himself known to us. God wants us to know Him — and has done everything He needs to do to make that possible”. Then one might ask “How has He done this”. According to the same “Does God Exist” article, it says, “One way is through His Word, the Bible, which He has given to us to better understand who He is. Another way is through the physical world He created, with all of its beauty and complexity and wonder. Isn’t it more logical to believe God created it than to believe it happened by chance? The Bible says, “Since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities — His eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made” (Romans 1:20)”. He has also shown many people He exists because he sent His son to die on the cross to save all from their sins to come.

God sending his own son down to the Earth is evidence that God exists in itself. As John Piper got from the Holy Bible, “ Romans 8:3 For jGod has done what the law, kweakened by the flesh, lcould not do. mBy sending his own Son nin the likeness of sinful flesh and ofor sin,3 he condemned sin in the flesh”. Many people might ask “How did God send his son to earth” (Jehovah’s Witnesses). As the “Why Did God Send Jesus To Earth” article says, “Jehovah transferred the life of Jesus from heaven to the womb of Mary by means of holy spirit. So Jesus was born without the aid of a human father”...” Jesus was born, not in the depths of winter, but likely in early October, when the weather was still warm. Some time later, Mary and her husband, Joseph, took Jesus to their home in Nazareth and raised him there. Joseph cared for Jesus as his adopted son.​—Read Matthew 1:18-23” (Jehovah’s Witnesses). Then the Jehovah’s Witnesses get into “Why Did God Send Jesus to earth?” (Jehovah’s Witnesses). According to Jehovah’s Witnesses, “God sent Jesus to teach people the truth… Jesus taught his followers self-sacrificing love. He had enjoyed many privileges living in heaven with his Father, yet he humbly obeyed his Father and came to earth to live among mankind. No one could give us a finer example of love than Jesus.​—Read John 15:12, 13; Philippians 2:5-8” (Jehovah’s Witnesses). Jehovah’s Witnesses tells people what Jesus accomplished by dying. Jehovah’s Witnesses says, “God also sent Jesus to die for our sins. (John 3:16) … Jesus, who was a perfect man, did not die for his own sins. He died for our sins. Jesus’ death makes it possible for us to enjoy everlasting life and be blessed by God.​— Read 1 Peter 3:18” (Jehovah’s Witnesses).

There are many people still to this day that do not believe in God. Even people in the Holy Bible did not believe in Him. Many people who do not believe in God came from a non-christian based background, or they do not want their life to be controlled by someone they have never seen before. According to a different “Does God Exist” article, it says, “the Bible warns that some will still deny God’s existence: “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Psalm 14:1). Since the vast majority of people throughout history, in all cultures, in all civilizations, and on all continents believe in the existence of some kind of God, there must be something (or someone) causing this belief” (Does God Exist). The “Does God Exist” article also says, “The existence of God cannot be proved or disproved. The Bible says that we must accept by faith the fact that God exists: “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). If God so desired, He could simply appear and prove to the whole world that He exists. But if He did that, there would be no need for faith. “Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed’” (John 20:29)”. As Billy Graham says, “People who deny that God exists may give several reasons for their unbelief. For example, they may say they reject God because they can’t understand why He doesn’t do something about all the evil in the world. Or they may say they’re turned off by the hypocrisy of Christians they’ve known”. Billy Graham also says, “But the real reason most deny God’s existence can be summarized in one word: pride. They want to run their own lives, and they don’t want anyone — especially God — to interfere with the way they’re living. They want to be in control of everything they do, and they know that if they were to believe in God, they’d have to change their lifestyle. Instead of living by their own list of what’s right and wrong, they’d have to take seriously God’s moral standards”. Billy Graham is a well known evangelist in this world today, but even he cannot help the lost people in this world.

To many people, no one can prove that God exists. As Dr. Ganssle states, “Ever since Immanuel Kant wrote his Critique of Pure Reason, it has been common for thinking people to insist that it is impossible to prove the existence of God. In fact this claim has been elevated to the level of dogma in American intellectual culture. The reason I know this is considered unquestionable dogma is the reaction I get when I call it into question” (Ganssle). Dr. Ganssle also states, “I agree that I cannot provide an argument that will convince all thinking people. But what does this tell me? Does this tell me anything about God? No. This tells me more about the nature of proof than it does about whether God exists. I cannot provide an argument which will convince everyone, without a possibility of doubt, that God exists. That is no problem. You see, I cannot provide an argument for any interesting philosophical conclusion which will be accepted by everyone without possibility of doubt”. Dr. Ganssle believes that he cannot state his opinion on whether God exists or not because he knows he does not have enough evidence to support either side of this argument. Dr. Ganssle states a believable statement in saying, “I cannot prove beyond the possibility of doubt — in a way that will convince all philosophers that the Rocky Mountains are really here as a mind-independent object. I cannot prove that the entire universe did not pop into existence five minutes ago and that all of our apparent memories are not illusions. I cannot prove that the other people you see on campus have minds. Perhaps they are very clever robots” (Ganssle). Dr. Ganssle then states, “Does this mean that arguments for the existence of God are useless? Not at all. Sure, I cannot provide an argument which will convince all thinking people but this does not mean I don’t have good reason to believe in God. In fact some of my reasons for believing in God may be persuasive to you. Even if you aren’t persuaded to believe that God exists, my arguments may not be useless. It is reasonable to believe that the mountains are real and our memories are generally reliable and that other minds exist. It is reasonable to believe these things even though they cannot be proven. Maybe some argument for God’s existence will persuade you that belief in God is reasonable”. Dr. Ganssle believes that he cannot state his opinion on whether God exists or not because he knows he does not have enough evidence to support either side of this argument. Many other christians struggle with the decision of whether they should defend God and prove his existence, or to stay quiet.

Still to this day, people do not know what to believe. Some people choose to believe in God and that he created everything on Earth, and the other people are either atheists who want to be left alone, then there are the people who believe in many gods. The real question is Does God truly exist or is he just a figment of their imagination.
