Leadership means it has potential to lead. It is a skill that can handle any kinds of situation. The ability to solve problem, and it is a unique attitude that can have to a person. A person that born as leader have a higher goal. They are the one who can make an impossible to possible in times of work. Leadership is the ability to assist a group of people, organization like church, business, community and even your own family. It Is a responsibility also to their subordinates, to provide guidance, ideas, visions and goals. For me, it’s a great responsibility, not just yourself but for everyone that follows you. It shows everyone how it’s done. To lead means to take everyone’s strength and weakness and turn into success. When one of the member needs help and guidance, the leader can talk and encourage that member so that they will confident to do their task. The leader motivates all members, they provide support and train people. They also show empathy. A leader that is approachable but at the same time respected. A leader should also a good listener in all aspect. You must know how to lead to their member so that the members will cooperate and there is a productive in the group. According to Twin “Leadership involves setting and achieving goals, taking action, and beating the competition” (2019). It’s a talent where the leader can confidently lead other people with good intention and transparency because not everyone can be a leader. Leader is a role model that will imitate by young ones and they will look up to him without hesitation.

When I was working in the hospital, I consider the chief nurse is the leader in the nursing department, which is she’s the one who guide us what to do, and for about clarification, she’s their to help. If one of our co-nurses has a problem and need advice, we can go directly to the chief nurse and talk to here. I remember when we have a quick meeting at the conference room about some event, she just allow us to talk for any suggestion, she’s listening to us and then when we had already a solution or answer for that event, she’s the one who grant that solution and she will assure that we can do our task very well. The chief nurse believes here team, she encourages us all to do our task properly, and if theirs a problem, she is open to help. The chief nurse inspires other to work together.

As for myself, leadership simply means that it has an expertise to handle a group of people, weather the situation is hard to handle or not. Leaders are not one-sided person, he/she consult the team first and shared one’s ideas before deciding about the plans. According to Canadian Nurses Association “Leadership plays a pivotal role in the lives of Nurses. It is an essential for quality professional practice environments where nurses can provide quality nursing care. It’s linkage between professional practice and the operational activity of the organization leads to a greater involvement in decision-making and foster collaboration within nursing and interdisciplinary teams” (2019).

There two types of leadership. The formal and informal leadership. Formal leadership is where a person is formally precise as the leader of a group. The formal leader’s task is to arrange the on-hand resources, work out the logistics and encourage the participants of the crew to raise out their tasks to the quality of their expertise. On the other hand, Informal leadership is a casual leader is an individual who’s now not officially appointed as the head of a group. However, the other contributors look to him for motivation and inspiration (Anderson, 2018).

When I was working in the hospital in medical ward for four months, chief nurse is always there to guide me and, she’s the one who train me some task of a nurse in the hospital wherein that time, I’m still a novice nurse where I’m hungered to learn more. I remember, there is one time that I really want to quit because I’m struggling to memorize all medication, but the chief nurse encourages me to do my best and she believed me that I can do memorize those medication. She motivates me by telling good words and telling me her experience when she was a staff nurse. The function of a formal leader is the who can display their command directly. Has responsibility to handle well timed manner and be a skilled person that anyone can see him/her just to have some views. While in my experience for the informal leader. I consider seniority nurse as an informal leader. When I work as a private duty nurse at home for at least 1 year. A nurse who taking care of that patient is almost 5 years which is she’s been taking care the patient long time ago. She has a lot experience than me even though we are the same. She teaches me how to get up the patient with proper body mechanics. She has more experience for that patient than me.

Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) is the national and global professional voice of Canadian nursing. CNA influenced my personal leadership philosophy by following rules and regulation to ensure the safety of the patient. Giving holistic care of the patient is the priority. Registered Nurse Association of Ontario (RNAO) influenced my personal leadership philosophy by promote and maintain a healthy environment for the patient and for the family. It contributes strategies to better success in their team which is valuable and maintain the nurse patient relationship. Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario (RPNAO) a composition of apprehension and competence of RN and RPN to give quality care for the patient. Assuring the safety of the patient and provide confidentiality of the patient’s information. College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) it influenced me by taking responsibilities and follow policies of nurses. It helps me to maintain the barrier of my patient. It’s a practice for all nurses in Canada which to be followed in order to work as a nurse in Canada. A competency where a nurse is physically or mentally fit for the job. This is one way to know if nurse can apply on that job.

As a nurse I should follow rules and policy to do my duty properly. Continue to serve what I learned from my institution by taking care of my patient. In addition, as a member of the team, I should help my co-workers plan a healthcare goal to our patient. Help each other for the sake of the patient. Give holistic care to our patient. Provide and maintain cleanliness in environment. To be a nurse is not easy but to be a nurse is a hero. We can save lives. I am a nurse. I’m proud to be a nurse.
