The Importance of Iraq War for America’s Wellbeing

In politics there was a topic in a democratic debate on how meaningful the war with Iraq was. This war started in 2003 and ended in 2011. It all started because Iraq was a threat, and they had possible ties with Al-Qaeda, etc. People are against the war since it caused casualties, had high expenses, and lasted for a very long time period, etc. In my opinion I believe that the war with Iraq was meaningful, and was important for America’s wellbeing.

Iraq was a threat to the United States. They had just flown two commercial airlines into the World Trade Center. At the time America felt very threatened and had just gone through a major loss of so many citizens. The only act we could make was war, and try to end this situation before something like this could happen again. Till after 9/11 Iraq is still a threat to the U.S.

One of the main reasons the U.S. went into war with Iraq was Iraq's “Weapons of Mass Destruction”. Iraq has Chemical and Biological weapons, missiles with ranges in excess of UN restrictions, and possible nuclear weapons. With these weapons under the hands of these people it could start war or attack innocent countries. Iraq bombs schools, homes, citizens of Iraq everyday while people say that it was the U.S. bombing them. When Iraq was at war with Iran they did an air raid with a chemical bomb and dropped it on the Kurdish civilians in northern Iraq and killed thousands and then a 100,000 civilians died or were crippled from the nerve gases, sarin, and mustard gas.

It’s not all trying to stop Iraq from attacking people, Iraq also has a valuable source called “Oil”. For a century the oil in Iraq has been targeted by everyone. Most people believe that Iraq is very poor in its land or in general, but in reality it is very resourceful in its oil. The amount of oil in and above ground in Iraq is worth $5 Trillion. Iraq's oil is sold to Russia, Egypt, China, etc.

The oil in Iraq is resourceful for the whole world.

In Iraq everyday there are kids who are surrounded by bombs, grenades, shots, and death. A psychiatrist quotes to have said that if the kids are exposed to this violence then they are more susceptible to becoming a terrorist. In Iraq the civilians of Iraq terrorize their own country. This means since the U.S. went to war with Iraq they were able to protect not only the U.S. but protect the children, women, and innocent civilians from terrorist that will cause the children from becoming mentally unhealthy.

In the Iraqi war like all wars there are casualties that have to suffer through the war. It is estimated that more than 110,600 Iraqis were killed from the start of the war until the end. The results of the Iraq war took 4,000 American lives. This is a reason that we should not have had war with Iraq. Since we deployed these troops they were in danger all the time and died from battles. Also since we deployed troops it made it innocent people possibly get killed from being in the middle of this war.

Every war has a tremendously expensive cost that no one wants to pay. Right now the U.S. is in $3 trillion of debt. In result of the Iraq war it was an estimated $1.9 trillion. This war has caused American taxpayers to pay $5.9 trillion in taxes. In reality this war has affected everyone in some way and was a lot of money.

You never know how long the conflicts between the two or more countries are going to be at it. Till this day America and the Middle East are still in many disagreements but many people believe that the war with Iraq has been way to long. This war started on Mar 20, 2003- Dec 18, 2011. People say that their kids weren’t alive at the start of this war and are now in the military having to go to war. WW2 lasted only about 6 years and the Iraq war has been much longer and is not exactly even worldwide. Sadly war sometimes to last this long or longer.

The Iraq war has its pros and cons. Every war has more cons than pros because obviously war is a terrible thing that has to be done that’s why I believe this war had a meaningful purpose. Many people believe that we need to just make peace with the world. I believe we do need to make peace with the world but if the U.S. says that they’re not going to fight back for a terrorist attack then America is just a weak country filled with hippies.
