Elaboration of What I Gained from My Volunteer Experience

On 3rd and 4th of August the event “SELANGOR INTERNATIONAL INDIGENOUS ARTS FESTIVAL 2019” is organized by tourism Malaysia & Selangor government. It is focused on Orang Asli as the main point of the event. I and other students are part of the volunteer for the event itself. In this essay I want to reflect on my volunteer experience during this festival.

On Saturday at 4.00 p.m. I departed from MSU to TAMAN BOTANI SHAH ALAM which I had to do volunteering task. When I and other students arrived at TAMAN BOTANI the first things we had to do is take a group picture to show to our lecturer and as our memories at the event. After that, we had our breakfast that prepared by F&B teams and we ate before we do our task. To set up the things for the next day event that called marathon. I take the opportunities to set up for the event because it is my first time to take a part to set up the things for big event and I believe it is a good opportunities for me and others.

After we had done our breakfast, we were taking to a place that gathered all of us to take a task. The SIIAF staff checks our attendance to make sure all of us are here. We had to wait for the lorry to arrive which is they bring the set up things. When the lorry has arrived the things were takeout from the lorry and the task is beginning. The task is divided into a two group, boys and girls group. The boys has to set up a heavy things like set a tent, carry the table and etc. for the girls group the task is given are easy and fun.

Activity that I and other girls do is we had to make a 600 bracelet from a ribbon that given by them which we had to measure that suit for bracelet. The bracelet that we had to make is for the runner that joins the next day event. We had to measure the one size that fit for all type of size it is for them to wear it or just hold the bracelet if they cannot fits the bracelet. It is little bit difficult when to measure the size that can fit for all. We just do a simple bracelet which we knot the ribbon at the end. The girls team has 10 members, we divided our task in pair. My task is to cut and measure the ribbon into the bracelet size and my partner Hapipah knot the ribbon. We has divided the task into 5 pair which is every pair will do 120 bracelet until it get 600 bracelet.

The learning experience that I gain from the activities is teamwork. Teamwork is really important when it is come to group task. The task will never get done if our teamwork did not do well or in bad condition. In teamwork, communication is important part when we want to handle the team. The good communication will lead to a good teamwork and it can be done easily. The task that we divide into a group we ask each other before came into conclusion. We tried to make the task that can be done quickly and efficiency that’s why we done in paired. Teamwork from each other is really important because if we were not focusing on what we do or not helping each other the work will never get done. By working together, teams can find the solutions that work best. It is supportive. When one team members falls behind the other will take care of it and do together. When work is divided up among members of a team, it gets done faster, making the overall business operate more efficiently. Your team will develop a sense of comradely as you work toward a common goal.

Teamwork builds morale. You'll feel that your work is valued when you contribute to something that produces results. Each team member has something special to offer. By working together, the team will sense a commitment to each other and the common goal. It is one thing to have a team, it's a whole other thing to have teamwork. A team that works well together can produce the good results and succeed together.

In conclusion, it is the best experience when do the activities. I got to communicate with other girls that I never talk before in class, try to know each other to make a good communication. When it comes to volunteering experience that comes in my mind was helping community and others in individual or group in a good ways which is helping without taking it for granted, learn a new things and learn a new skills that can help our future to be better.
