If I could have a 30-minute conversation with any person in human history, I would pick Elon Musk. He is a business magnate, investor, engineer, and inventor. Elon is the founder, and CEO, of SpaceX. He also co-founded, Tesla Inc, and Solarcity. He has said that the goals of SpaceX, Tesla, and Solarcity revolves around his vision to change the world and humanity. He’s kinda like the Avatar when the fire nation attacked. I look up to him.
When he founded SpaceX, his envision for it was creating a true spacefaring civilization and to reducing the risk of human extinction by establishing a human colony on Mars. Elon became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the company. SpaceX develops rockets and focuses on advancing state of rocket technology. In seven years, SpaceX created the family of Falcon launch vehicles and the Dragon multipurpose spacecraft. In 2008, SpaceX’s Falcon 1 rocket became the very first privately funded liquid-fueled vehicle to put a satellite into Earth orbit. On December 22, 2015, SpaceX successfully landed its Falcon rocket back on a launch pad. This was the first time in history an orbital rocket landed on a launch pad and it is a step towards rocket reusability because it lowers the costs to go to space.
Elons goals for Tesla was to create a completely electric car that can compete with cars that burn fossil fuel in terms of acceleration, speed, and safety. In the financial crisis of 2008, Tesla lost a lot of funding so Musk liquidated a vast majority of his fortune to keep the company going. After that Musk assumed leadership of the company as CEO and product architect. In June 22, 2012 Tesla began delivery of its four-door Model S sedan. In 2014, Musk allowed Tesla’s technology patents to be used by anyone to entice other automobile manufacturers to speed up development of electric cars. With Tesla he hopes to reduce global warming through sustainable energy consumption and production.
Musk provided the starting concept for SolarCity, which was then co-founded in 2006 by his cousins Lyndon and Peter Rive. By the year 2013, SolarCity was the second largest provider of solar power in the United States. SolarCity was then acquired by Tesla, in 2016 and is now a subsidiary of Tesla. Elon Musk’s motivation for funding both SolarCity and Tesla was to help combat global warming.
