For centuries small farms have been the source of plant and animal food products for the United States. Farming has been an essential part of American culture and the food we eat every day. There is a high demand for these products in an ever growing population. With an increasing population we need a faster and more productive way to get the food to its consumers. There are many ways to meet the demands of the many people who seek these products.
Factory farming is one the solutions to the high demand for plant and animal food products our nations. Factory farming usually consists of large corporations that mass produce animal and plant food products to maximize profit and provide a much cheaper and safer product for its consumers. The techniques used to mass produce these products are believed to be the most efficient way of meeting the demands of an increasing population.
The means of acquiring the products through factory farming are safe and are sometimes altered to provide a more nutritious food compared to other organic farms. Factory farming also promises a safe and healthy environment for the animals that are confided to these farms. With a larger world population, factory faming is the most efficient way of feeding the world
Factory farming may provide a more quantitative amount of food, but it still has a lot of flaws that make it inefficient. In my opinion I believe that factory farming is wrong, and there are more effective ways of farming. It may be cheaper to mass produce all this food but it takes a toll on many other aspects of life. With all the industrious production of the food, it destroys its surrounding biodiversity. Soil is poisoned with the larger amounts of fertilizer used and emissions from the farm pollute the air.
Factory farming may be a cheaper alternative to buy, but the side effects of factory farming are not cheap. Millions are spent each year to help reverse the effects the farming has done the land. There are also many health effects that cause many diseases that contribute to the debt of factory farming. The food may be cheaper but it causes more debt to everything around it.
The illusion of factory farming is that “bigger is better”, but that is not always the case. With a large population of animals pack together comes the risk of food-borne illnesses. Once an animals become ill, the spread of disease in imminent. Due to the high demand and speed of these products these farm often contaminated and recalled, causing the beef industry billions of loss.
Overall factory farming may be a faster and cheaper way of producing food, but it was many long term effects and outweighs its efficiency. It does more harm than good compared to other ways of farming. Factory farming is wrong because it destroys our biodiversity, cost billions in damages, and is not as efficient as promised.
