In the movie “Tinimbang ka ngunit kulang” (Weighed But Found Wanting) what critical approach that really dominated the movie is Feminis.
The movie portrayed different characteristics of a woman. If we talk about Kuala, she is the what we call the “crazy lady” of the town, she was a very carefree type of women maybe because she has a loose screw or maybe that’s the way she is, but one thing that I’m curious about is how did she became like that and that is something that I did not see in the movie. It lacks some informations but the idea is still there but I get it why, it’s just the movie did not gave a clear sequence for the benefit of clear understanding.
The second one is the mother of junior, son of ceasar. She has a strong personality which can almost beat up a man. I can see that she is somehow a very commanding person, she wants the people around her to follow her instructions, but it’s not a bad personality actually, she gives orders that can actually benefit for the good.
The 3rd one is Evangeline. She is a very uncontented with what is have and has playful heart, she is also very prideful as in the scene where Junior tried to teach her a lesson and make her realize that she has already a man for herself but she was acting high that she can replace him anytime, she is also the type of girl that doesn’t think of the consequnces of her action as she had sex with dino which they were caught and they were forced to marry each other. This type of girl fell into the criteria of permanence as in our current society there are a lot of girls (not only girls but boys also) do not think about the consequences of their actions, they just follow what the heart dictates them.
The 4th are the Sisters of the association, they are very ‘chismosa’ considering that they serve the church it is really ironic. We can label them as Hypocrites as they serve the church but acts like an uneducated people. There are actually more I can say about the movie but I only to give highlight to Feminism as it plays a big role in the movie.
Over all it is an interesting movie where we can see thing that are in the past can still be done in our modern society, there are lessons which is that we should not judge other people’s appearance or rather don’t judge a book by it’s cover because in the movie Berto and Kuala did nothing wrong but because of their sickness they are being discriminated instead of taking care of them.
