Have you wondered what would happen if global warming continues? Global warming is a thing everyone should care about because it affects everyone. If you don’t work to stop it there might not even be polar bears anymore. Global warming is heating up the planet and melting the ice polar bears live on and if there is no more ice where will they live? If everyone does their little part to help like a bike if less than a mile, work towards stopping methane gas, etc. this might stop happening. We must take action, you can do these things to help: drive less, recycle more, check your tires, use less hot water, avoid products with a lot of packaging, adjust your thermostat, plant a tree, turn off electronic devices to help prevent crop failure and extinction of animals.
Firstly, global warming causes crop failure. Evidence shows that “Eighty percent of the world’s crops are rainfed, so most farmers depend on the predictable weather, agriculture has adapted to in order to produce their crops.” We need predictable weather patterns so that crops can be water if we can't fix that our crops may not be with us much longer. Another thing that proves this is “The news isn’t good: the research, based on a new set of data created by the combination of 1,700 previously published studies, found that global warming of only 2º C (3.6º F) will likely reduce yields of staple crops like rice and maize as early as the 2030s.” This shows that just a small change of temperature affects our crops a lot and that we should all be working to stop it. Lastly, “When temperatures rise, the warmer air holds more moisture and can make precipitation more intense. Extreme precipitation events, which are becoming more common, can directly damage crops, resulting in decreased yields.” This helps support how to crop failure is happening from global warming because it explains how climate change is affecting the weather pattern and how that is affecting crops.
Secondly, global warming causes extinction. “Evidence suggests that the warming of the past century already has resulted in marked ecological changes, including changes in growing seasons, species ranges, and patterns of seasonal breeding.” Global warming is causing a change in the growing season which causes different breeding patterns which may be good or bad but it's affecting the animals. Another piece of evidence to prove this is“WWF scientists have estimated that most species on this planet (including plants) will have to 'move' faster than 1,000 meters per year if they are to keep within the climate zone which they need for survival. Many species will not be able to redistribute themselves fast enough to keep up with the coming changes. These species, as far as we know given present knowledge, may well become extinct.” The plants and animals have to move faster to keep up with the climate change that global warming is causing which the species that can't keep up may go extinct. “Global warming resulting from human emissions of greenhouse gases. The consequences include habitat loss; shifts in climatic conditions and in habitats that surpass migrational capabilities; altered competitive relationships.” Habit loss and weather patterns cause animals not to have places to live which may cause them to go extinct and also not keep up with the immigration.
Some people will tell you that global warming is just a natural cycle and there is nothing to worry about. “Human activities have increased the abundance of heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere. This increase is mostly due to burning fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural gas.” This proves that global warming IS caused by humans and everyone should work to stop it.
In order to avoid crop failure and extinction, you can do these things to help: drive less, recycle more, check your tires, use less hot water, avoid products with a lot of packaging, adjust your thermostat, and plant a tree, turn off electronic devices. If most people stop doing these things you can avoid crop failure and extinction.
