This big data undergoes processing by sophisticated machine learning algorithms and data scientists. Big data is influential in healthcare due to the major shifts in the industry, the vast amount of data available, growing healthcare costs, and high consumer demand (Raghupathi 2014). Therefore, big data enables healthcare systems to turn these challenges into opportunities by providing customized patient journeys and quality care. To achieve this, the use of flexible, easy and expandable information technology infrastructure should be enabled to makes the data analyzable.
Data mining, on the other hand, is the process through which big data is examined and evaluated to discover trends and use of these patterns to foretell the probability of future occurrences. An interesting feature of big data concerning healthcare is the estimation of the expected number of patients by the use of automated machines and big data.
