Home Automation is a term used for automating home appliances through microcontrollers and sensors so that they can operate independently or conditionally according to the designed system. Various home automation systems are available nowadays, but they lack some essential features. These systems are often super expensive, and installation can be a challenging task. Cheaper systems have limitations; they require a separate Infrared Remote to control the system, and installing them in old switchboards is not possible. This research paper presents a test report for a low-budget Home Automation System that can be embedded or integrated into any existing switchboards installed in houses and controlled using a smartphone through Bluetooth.
Home Automation is a system that can be independent or dependent according to the design. These systems have all the controls of home appliances interconnected with each other. Home Automation represents a revolutionary change in this era, simplifying and easing our lifestyle. The continuously evolving technology makes impossible things possible. As a result, we encounter home automation and its features; however, due to its complex design, it is expensive. Furthermore, arrangements are made in newly constructed houses or apartments for Home Automation System installation. But what about old houses? They do not have these arrangements, so they need to be retrofitted or have their wiring redone.
The essential aim of the Home Integration Embedded System is to control or monitor signals from various appliances or fundamental services. A smartphone or computer can be used to control or monitor the home automation system. Therefore, a new home automation system must be developed that can be integrated into old switchboards and does not use any additional peripherals like Infrared Remotes or Wi-Fi Routers. It should be controlled by devices people already have, like a smartphone. Not only the hardware but the software interface should be simple and ergonomic, usable by anyone. Consequently, the new system design will be affordable and can easily be installed anywhere or in any house. It is particularly beneficial for individuals whose mobility is impaired and for elderly people who cannot walk properly.
This project will allow users to control home appliances remotely through a smartphone with a specific application installed. This can be extremely useful for those who are physically disabled and any senior citizens who cannot exert the effort to go and use switchboards. It can also be used by farmers, allowing them to operate remote water systems during bad weather when they cannot go to the field. An average person can also install this device in their garden sprinklers, so they do not need to go anywhere to switch them on or off. This will also help in many real-life situations, such as when someone is busy working on a project and needs to switch the fan on without wanting to get up and do it. Thus, this will be helpful to them. Moreover, it is truly enjoyable to control home appliances from a smartphone.
Presently, smartphones solve a multitude of our problems, making our lives simpler and easier. Therefore, we can advance one step further. Switchboard Integration Embedded System is just the beginning of showcasing the technology, and it will be a major tool in our daily lives. After testing all the modules, I found that it was fun to use this system as well as being useful in specific cases. This system can be used uniquely for patients and senior citizens. I also found that this is the best home integration embedded system as it serves the purpose at a lower cost. It is also compatible with all switchboards, making it highly adaptable. Furthermore, its Android application has a simple, effective design and easy user interface. Additionally, the system uses a very basic connectivity technology, Bluetooth, which every smartphone has. The embedded system can also be accessed using various applications available in the Play Store, demonstrating its high compatibility.
