Is there a person that has not heard of high school bullying? The fact that high schools are filled with bullies is well known. Bullies can get to their victims online also. Any person that goes through this type of ordeal will be left psychologically damaged or physically. This is why school faculty needs to put a stop to bullying. When students are being continually bullied, they will have a lost of interest in school, low self-esteem and suicidal thoughts.
One of the effects of being bullied in high school is that students will have trouble succeeding academically. When you are constantly being bullied you will loss confidence that you need in class. Instead of engaging in class discussions a student would rather keep to himself or herself. The student’s fear of being harassed in class will overshadow the chance of learning. A student’s ability to concentrate would disappear and be replaced with the feeling of anxiety. Because of this anxiety a student will become restless, they will not be able to sleep at night. A person needs about eight hours of sleep, and without the proper amount of sleep a person cannot function in class. With the lack of sleep a student will start to doze off in class. Anyone one in this situation would want a way out. A way he or she could do that would be to avoid classes all together. A student will start to skip school by faking ill. This will have a major effect on a student’s grades. With this teenagers will find no motivation to exceed in class. Teens will want to drop out of school then spend six hours in their own personal hell.
Also with the drop in grades in school, being constantly tormented a person’s self esteem will start to be depleted. Because of the bullying other classmates will not want to befriend them, friends might turn away from them in their time of need. When friends are most needed they will have no one to turn to. The only person there is himself or herself. There is nothing wrong with a teen being independent, but a student being left alone is different matter. With this mentality they would rather keep to themselves and not bother anyone. This dangerous path will lead to depression. With this depression comes the loss in making progress in life. The feeling of things getting better will soon disappear from a students mind. The student will become very irritated with life, and begin to avoid their family at home. They will stop talking about school when it is mentioned from a parent. The feeling of being deserted will transition into loneliness. The heartache of being alienated will put a teenager in a place they would have never expected to be.
As a result of low self-esteem a teen can get to their lowest. When a person is not in the right state of mind, they are not thinking the same way. The focus is finding away to abandon the pain of being bullied. With the consistent harassment from a bully, they will be pushed over the edge. They will want to be relieved from the stress of being bullied. Soon they will start to rehearse a way out. What might seem like the easiest way out at the time. With the consistent feeling of being helpless and hopeless a teen is looking for a way out. The way out is suicide.
With bullying there are no positives outcomes on a teen’s life. With so many things that can go wrong with just a simple name-calling in school. School faculty needs to put more time into stopping bullies in high school. It is easier to just stand back and say nothing. But just standing and watching promotes bulling. Faculty cannot encourage this type of behavior from the youth. The courage comes from knowing that this is not how people should treat others. All these unneeded negatives will affect a teen’s school life. But the effects of bullying do not just stop at school. They can be seen in a teen’s daily life. There should be a person that guides a teen in their troubled time. If no one can do this then we will have more teens in high school having the same effect in his or her life. A student in high school being bullied leads to effects that cannot be undone. High school faculty needs to be aware of bullying and put a stop to it so that there will not be more incidents like this in the future.
