Obstacles are often faced by each one of us in our day to day life, as we make each and every effort to reach the pinnacle of success. One must strive hard with great perseverance and resolution besides being very challenging and thoughtful to overcome it with ease, and there we learn, how to be momentous and highly committed to face various trials and tribulations that are hindrance to our setbacks. I faced innumerable impediments throughout my educational prospectus but, each one of it has taught me, to be deliberately thoughtful, self-attentive and focused to deal situations with great affluence in the present scenario.
At my Undergraduation level, I had a strange fear for public speaking because of not being very capable and also because of not having a proper grip over the subject. Moreover, I was not a very fluent speaker in English and used to be terribly scared to speak out, thinking that people may make commentaries if made any grammatical errors. There were days, where I had struggled a lot during most of my English sessions where I have to be a part of Classroom Discussions, In-class debates and deliberations and also during many other Oral examinations. These sessions constantly increased my pressure, which lead to strong discouragement, convulsive agony and anger indirectly paving way to pain and distress in me. Finally resulted in, complete pull down of my grades to the great extent knowing that, the language encompasses more credits than any other core papers. I really felt a grieving embarrassment before my teachers, peers and most of all before my close friends. Their constant encouragement and motivational words have seeded my brain and soul with positive thoughts just like the essential vitamins that rejuvenate and nourish the body. They had enriched my confidence levels that anything can be achieved in life with strong passion and great interest. These optimistic and affirmative words had instilled curiosity in me to acquire language skills just with persistent practice and continuous learning.
Moreover, while I was pursuing my post-graduation, it is mandatory to present seminars and power point presentations on the core subjects. This not only gave me self-assurance, indeed won a fulsome praise by the end of my Postgraduation for my efficient speaking skills. Since then, I had an inbuilt gushing enthusiasm constantly flowing in, to speak out and deliver a captivating speech in public with impetuous zeal and courage. This illimitable progression driven me to take up IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and finally received a cardinal merit for my creditable performance and finally the devouring ambition to pursue my education abroad had fulfilled successfully.
It is clearly evident that the unshrinking determination and spirit turned me into an eloquent speaker, writer and also a good listener. At the end, the long journey of Ups and Downs throughout my career taught me the important lessons of life that obstacles are very common but one must search and research for different ways not to escape the obstacle but how to overcome it with ease and must elevate as a successful man.
An obstacles on its own, generally exists to impede the progress of something or someone which means, it doesn’t necessarily have to be something tangible or visible. Simply put, anything that conforms to that definition of hindering a certain level of progress, is considered an obstacle. An example of a tangible or physical obstacle can be the case of a track runner who come across a ditch or a stone barrier on the track as he races towards the finish line. That ditch or barrier becomes an obstacle which forces him to change approach or apply extra effort in order to continue his race and reach his desired outcome. He could either jump across, or run in a different direction or stop the race.
An intangible obstacle on the flip side, could be a health issue, an emotional problem or a thought pattern among several others. Yes, your thought pattern could be an obstacle to your progress. An optimist is more likely to succeed or achieve desired results than a pessimist. A pessimist sees the cup as half empty instead of half full and would often give up on his dreams and visions because of imagined pitfalls. In my country, many people want the political climate to change but are too pessimistic to contribute to making that dream a reality. Such people would not even bother to vote because they believe their votes wouldn’t count anyway. An optimist in the same situation would not only desire and hope for change but would also cast his vote and hope that with time and consistency, things would begin to change for the better.
Obstacles are less about themselves and more about than the target to be achieved. In tackling obstacles, we then need to be versatile, open minded and flexible in our approach. Sometimes one must deal with the obstacle directly but at other times one may need to ignore or avoid it. They are not necessarily enemies of progress and their presence does not necessarily mean that you’re going the wrong way. They often serve to help us develop our grit, resilience and capacity to handle unexpected things or events. They encourage us to be creative and to think outside the box in search of resolution. A lot of ‘eureka’ moments and outstanding ideas have come out of the process of tackling obstacles.
