The controversial issue in which the parents get divided from being responsible parents and caring adults. As one can image about the views of how one can perceive a young girl into beauty pageants where they are judged off their different aspect on how they look that they had spent thousands upon thousands of dollars for. A child beauty pageant is an advance competition to discover an appealingly plump and pretty toddler to an industry that transforms them to miniature beauty queens with their make-up, overly dramatic big fake hair, and sequined costumes. Most important to recognize the different side effects a young child may go through certainly not by their own choice.
A young contestant can be at risk to growing up to disliking their bodies and mentally affecting them from what their parents or coaches have indulge upon them for a competition that is meant to be fun for them but is taken way to serious. The physiological state of the young girl’s mind is strongly impacted negatively as well as their physical bodies since they are harmed from what their mothers usually spend the money on for the child to win a prize. The exploitation can also could lead to a high exposure to sexual predators as well since it is shown through reality tv such as “Toddlers and Tiaras” where anyone can view what they do, where they live, and all their prize possessions on what the show decides to show. As the show well demonstrates it will be shown how parents cannot differentiate between their need and of their child’s needs.
According to the Child abuse Prevention and Treatment and Adoption Reform Act, it is the discussed of how child abuse is the physical or mental injury, sexual abuse or exploitation of a child. They are put under circumstances that could indicate the child’s health or welfare is threatened or could be harmed. For a full glitz pageant it is included all sorts of preparations as mentioned before the extreme beauty enhancements into more detail on what a child must go through they get all the full make-up, false eyelashes, spray tans, fake nails, waxing, and much more since a lot is required in order to having a high chance to win a crown, a title, and perhaps money or a toy.
From what is demonstrated onto Toddlers and Tiaras is could be a painful process for the child judging from her reaction with the tears and stress of what the young toddle must go through. For instance, a mother has gotten to a point where she givers her daughter as young as eight years old Botox for supposed “wrinkles” that her daughter somehow believed she had. Then another mother who puts her daughter through an unnecessary eyebrow waxing that had been clearly did not want and has been seriously injured due to past experiences. They also present a lack of sleep and they must skip their much-needed naps to prepare for pageants since both very grown adults such as her parents and coaches would not want her hair, dress, and make up to get ruined from it. It is absurd the amount of pressure that gets put upon a young toddler and countess clips from TLC’s Toddlers and Tiaras get shown from young girls being exhausted, the frustration, and unhappy at the pageants.
As mentioned earlier these young girls risk a high exposure and easy to notice due to popular shows most people enjoy watching for their entertainment. Though it seems not to be as a concern how much the child gets exposed to where it could possibly be dangerous. As what a young child had to unfortunately experience JonBenet Ramsey, a five-year-old child beauty pageant star who had been murdered in 1995 though it was an incident well known to everyone and happened a long time ago. People do not realize a tragic situation could happen till its to late and it comes to reality. JonBenet Ramsey had been popularized through videos of her competing in pageants shown on Fox News Network where millions of eyes watch. Early in the year of 2006 police had finally arrested the suspect then admitting the reason for the murder was he had stated the way she knows of her and had been interested in her was due to her pubic exploitation. The display of Ramsey’s pageantry to shows such as Toddlers and Tiaras. The way Ramsey happened to be murdered from a public attraction could occur once again in the same manner because these sort of reality TV shows unfortunately exist. The media coverage had been repeatedly focused on JonBenet’s young role in pageants. The belief of this being part of fault due to the challenge by the media because of her pageant image.
