Many children currently play games on TV and smartphones and their mothers seeing the sight will say with an unsatisfying face like this: Do not play games and study. It is because they often hear the bad effects of games such as reducing vision and increasing violence when playing games. But I think the game is beneficial for children because they can improve creativity and judgement and acquire the ability to think logically, plan and carry out. Also, it is cited as the reason that the bad effects of games are not scientifically proven. I will explain these reasons in detail and try to make my argument understood.
First, I will mention that game improve creativity and judgement. According to the result of the "Torrance Test" conducted by Michigan State University for 491 children aged 12 years, the reason has not been elucidated, but regardless of the gender, race, and type of game of the player, the more the child play the game, the higher creativity they have. Also, according to the experimental results conducted by Daphne Bavelier's research group at the University of Rochester, the action game improves the ability of probabilistic inference, an ability to quickly link sensory information to accurate judgment. As these facts show, games have the power to nurture and enhance human abilities.
Second, I will mention that children can acquire the ability to think logically, plan and carry out by playing game. Every game has its purpose and goal. And there are methods and procedures to accomplish them. In order to successfully play the game, we have to do the following four things. The first is to confirm the purpose to be achieved. The second is to think logically about the way to achieve the purpose. The third is to plan how to proceed with things. The fourth is to actually execute the plan. You can acquire the ability to do these by playing games. What I would like to pay attention to here is that these abilities are very important in social life. In society, people with these abilities are highly valued and wanted. If games allow children to acquire and train these abilities, the game will be beneficial for children.
Third, I will mention that the bad effects of games are not scientifically proven. Many people think that games have a bad influence. A Representative example of a bad influence is becoming violent or aggressive. A new long-term study on violent media under the leadership of psychologist Christopher Ferguson indicated that there is nothing to do with violent games and actions and questioned the methodology of previous research suggesting that the two are related. The negative impact of games that many people are worried about is not academically proven.
In conclusion, I think that games are beneficial for children and the general theory that games have a bad effect on children should be changed. Children can improve their ability and acquire the ability required in society by playing games. Some of the negative effects of games that many people are worried about are not academically proven. Someday it will be known that the game is beneficial. The time may come someday when a mother will tell her son “Play games”.
