The humanitarian award is an award awarded to people for certain writings, work, and international societal achievement. There is certain criteria that needs to be met in order to be presented the award, and there are many different versions of it; there is no one award, there’s (to name a few) a Harvard version, LCIP, Jean Hersholt, The Global Award, etc.
The official definition of the humanitarian award is, “An award that recognizes the work of persons in communities throughout the United States and internationally who are devoted to the welfare of humanity.” There are certain criteria that must be met in order to be officially awarded, but the criteria I’ll be listing are achievements, devotion, selflessness, and character. There have been many winners of the award over the years, but the person I’ll be focusing on is Leonardo DiCaprio.
Leo was born in 1974 in Los Angeles. He has done many things with his life including but not limited to: acting in Hollywood, creating his own foundation, and supporting many charities, organizations, and causes. Leo’s character has never been one of question. He strives for greatness and doesn’t give up on his dreams. He’ll do whatever it takes to help fight the good fight of life; the fight not all of us are willing to take. The fight against everything we as a society ignore. I’m of course talking about hunger, poverty, disease, global warming, animal endangerment, etc. Aside from having his own foundation and helping with worldly issues, he’s been in many films. His most well-known works are: What’s Eating at Gilbert Grape, Titanic, The Departed, the Wolf of Wall Street, The Revenant, Django, etc. Embedded in this link is his filmography and achievements in film (including the Grammy he won for his 2015 film The Revenant).
His selflessness sees no limit. Apart from the causes he’s taken, the list of charities he supports are as follows: Cinema for Peace, African Wildlife Foundation, Declare Yourself, Film Foundation, Global Cool, Global Green, Green Cross International, Indigenous Environmental Network, International Fund for Animal Welfare, Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, Motion Picture and Television Fund Foundation, Natural Resources Defense Council, Onyx and Breezy Foundation, Pediatric Epilepsy Project, Reef Check Foundation, Save the Elephants, SOS Children’s Villages, Stop Global Warming, The Gorilla Organization, The Solutions Project, Tree People (it’s meant to be one word), Unite for Japan, WildAid, and WWF.
This shows that, as I’ve previously said, he’s worked both nationally and internationally to make the world a better place by solving the problems we currently have as well as trying to prevent future ones. He devotes his time and resources to providing entertainment and to keeping us alive. Acceptance Speech: “Ladies and gentleman… tonight I want to welcome a very special person. Someone who has made great contributions to both film and worldly issues. Someone who has been the voice of the voiceless, the help for the helpless, and the hope for the hopeless. You know him well, you love him dearly, please welcome Mr. Leonardo DiCaprio.”
