Impact of Coronavirus Outbreak The Hospitality Industry

The Hospitality industry is undoubtedly one of the industries that are sensitive to global trends particularly health epidemics such as the Coronavirus. The hospitality industry in China, Thailand, and Singapore and in the United States is likely to get affected in the long term in the event that the Coronavirus outbreak is prolonged. The global hospitality Industry which encompasses leisure institutions, hotels and casinos will be adversely affected as a result of the outbreak due to the high number of booking cancellations. Also, the hospitality industry is closely linked with the aviation industry that has greatly been affected by the Coronavirus epidemic resulting in travel restrictions by cities and flight cancellations by scheduled passengers.

The hospitality industry will be affected as scheduled tourists either cancel their flights and trips due to restrictions placed on traveling or the fear of the health epidemic. Moreover, tourists scheduled to visit Wuhan are likely highly likely to cancel their hotel reservations as the city is quarantined to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Noteworthy, although China and Wuhan, in particular, is the epicenter of the virus, the global hospitality industry will also get affected as many Chinese tourists will cancel visits and tours to countries such as Australia and the United States.

Furthermore, the economic impact of the Coronavirus to the hospitality industry is likely to be prolonged as more cases of the virus are confirmed in other countries. Undoubtedly, travel restrictions are likely to be instituted in the event of confirmation of more cases of the Coronavirus confirmation in countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom. The coronavirus epidemic portends an immediate adverse impact on the hospitality industry which may prolong if the virus is not contained.
