Indoor tanning is designed to give high levels of ultra violet radiation in a short amount of time to get perfected tan skin. Tanning indoors is banned in some countries. Tanning indoors is not as safe as most people think. Tanning indoors is restricted in Brazil and Australia.

Numerous results and risks of indoor tanning have occurred. Premature aging and fine lines are the most common. Indoor tanning negatively affects the body’s immune system, making skin dry and cracked. Constantly tanning makes skin more vulnerable to diseases. Ultra violet, UV, both natural and artificial, increases risks of developing skin cancer. Another result is cataracts and corneal burns, this can be prevented by wearing sunglasses or goggles. UVB, ultra violet blast, burns and ages skin and causes allergic reactions (Brown). UV is extremely dangerous and has many consequences.

Tanning indoors is not as safe as most people think. People who tan indoors are more likely to get sunburned. Over exposure of UV rays causes the skin to burn even when using indoor tanning. Exposure to ultra violet rays causes skin cancers such as melanoma, which is the deadliest (Brown). Although most think indoor tanning is designed to be safe, it would not be the best option.

Using a tanning bed, booth, or sunlamp to get tan is called indoor tanning. Exposure to ultraviolet rays while indoor tanning causes skin cancers including melanoma. UV exposure also can cause cataracts. UV exposure from the sun and from indoor tanning is classified as a human carcinogen. Indoor tanning exposes two types of UV rays, UVA and UVB, that damages the skin and can lead to cancer. Indoor tanning is dangerous for younger users (Monthy). This may be due to greater use of indoor tanning among those who begin tanning at earlier ages.

Tanning indoors is not safer than tanning in the sun. Indoor tanning and tanning outside are both dangerous. Although indoor tanning devices operate on a timer, the exposure to UV rays can vary based on the age and type of light bulbs (Monthy). Most can get a burn from tanning indoors.

A tan is the body’s response to injury from UV rays. A base tan does little to protect from future damage to skin caused by UV exposure. People who indoor tan are more likely to report getting sunburned. Although it is important to get enough vitamin D, the safest way to do so is through eating something like oranges (Brown).
