Internet of everything is when people, process and data is brought together so that networked connections are made, and so the connections are more relevant and valuable. It creates more capabilities and can help an economy with new opportunities. Internet of Everything first came about in 1999 when Kevin Ashton the co-founder of Auto-ID stated it in a presentation. Also, in 1999 Neil Gernshefelds book “when things start to think” mentioned this provided where IoE was going.

First it was machine to machine (M2M) but that is taken to another level with billions of devices that connects humans, as well as other applications and other systems. There are many advantages of IoE to organisations such as monitoring all the processes, improve a fundamental part of the business which is improving customer experiences, as well as reducing costs and saving precious time. Reducing cost will mean that the overall revenue will increase therefore increase in profits.

The internet of everything has four main pillars, these pillars include the following:

  • people: IoE is connecting people in more relevant and valued and easy ways. (People to people).
  • Data: converting this data into something valuable so that better decision can be made. (People to machine).
  • Process: delivering the right data (information) to the right people or their machines at the correct time.
  • Things: devices (physical) are connect to the interned or other device to make the best possible decisions.

Home automation systems is a very good example of IoE; home automation system means that you can have control over your house using your mobile device. You can control your heaters using your mobile phone as well as you front door whether you want it locked or not. Other things in the house could also be on that automations system such as blinds, lights and other electrical products.

Internet of everything is used in many ways such as being used in physical objects; these objects include the following:

Drones

Can be an aid to society, delivering supplies and other stuff such as food and drinks to rural areas. Also, drones are used for other deliveries by companies such as amazon, this means that their cost are lowered, instead of paying for a worker, they have drones to take the delivery. People (for shooting movies) also use drones for shooting videos, this gives them better photos quality and they won’t need a helicopter, which is very costly. Drones are used for many other things, such as agriculture monitoring and many more. There are many other physical objects that uses Internet of Everything such as smart TVs, smart fridges and trackers for pets.

Experiential interactions such as video games can also be seeing as IoE; this is because games will take you to experience something.Aid to people such as smart watches where it tracks your fitness, this will tell you how many steps you’ve taken in a day. It also tells you how many calories you’ve burnt in a day, you’ll be allowed to check this information online as well, you can set your self-goals to reach by the end of the day. When you sleep, the sleep mode of the product allows you to monitor how well you’ve slept, the quality of your sleep. There other Aid to people such as medical devices and adjustable hearing aids.

There are many examples of applications that use the concept of IoE. These examples include the following:

Body/Health Applications

It is said that technologies could potentially change health and care as the IoE is now coming to use. There are two types of examples: Apps: there are a number of applications that will measure a range of medical conditions. For example, Ginger.io, this looks at people that suffer from depression and it tracks their mood, then the when they do that support can be put in place. This can save life and it is a very efficient way to know if some is going to have a bad day. The other example is having portable tools at home: this idea may not be so new, however it’s a good way for doctors to have an idea of how the patient is doing, if the they aren’t doing so great, the doctor can visit them. Blood tests and other things can be done at home using wireless sensors.

Home Automation Systems/Home Applications

Applications to ensure that babies sleep well, and the see if young children are doing their homework when the parents are not at home. When it comes to home automation system there is Internet of Everything involved, e.g. in smart door locks, these smart door locks will either require a special code (password) a finger print or a smart card. As the door is usually the first or the last thing you see before coming in or leaving, this system will measure/monitor the conditions inside the house to see if it is safe to go in and if it is it will open the door for you. This lock will also turn off the lights if there in no one at home, so if the last person leaves the house, then the lights will automatically turn off because there Is no one at the house, this is the same for other things such as heaters and other electrical products.

Talking of heaters, there is a system in place where the heating will automatically turn on if it is too cold in the house and vice versa. This will mean time is saved for the households as they dint must worry about turning on the haters when it cold, it done automatically for them. It may be costly in the short term however it will be very beneficial in the long term., which is important. Cities and neighbourhood applications: council can use IoE to improve all the services. Councils can use sensors to see if the rooms are occupied, if not then the lights, heaters can be turned off automatically, this will reduce the cost of electricity and gas immensely as people usually forget to turn off their lights. Street lights also uses a lot of the national electricity, so they can use sensors to see if there is activity going on and the lights can act accordingly.

Industry Applications

Businesses can use smarter office management such as electronic calendars, this can be used to see the time and the room of the meeting. Thy employer can tell the device that a meeting is required in this place at this time then the electron calendar can find time for it, and have the meeting place confirmed. If there is a problem on that date, then the device will automatically reschedule the date for the meeting. This will help a business save money and be more productive, reducing cost is the main objective in any business, this will mean that profits will increase. Increasing profit margins can lead more investment in Internet of Everything which can bring about even more productivity and even efficiency, leading to a greater profit margin. In a short term it might be expensive to invest in this kind of capital, however, in a longer term the benefits will outweigh the costs for using this kind of technology. Another thing they can use is too monitor their products, so if there are any issues with their product they can fix it.

Environmental Applications

Correct temperature and lighting levels. Bin sensors, so that when they are full they can be emptied. And lastly there are sensor that will measure water quality, and these sensors will give some sort of clean-up service to the dirty water. As well as giving report so that the team can
