A contract acts as an agreement between an employer and an employee. It is a means of agreeing and understanding what is expected of the two parties in a legal way. An employee can be dismissed from the job if they breach the contract. The employee can sue the employer if they don’t abide by the contract.

Types of Employment in the Media Industry

In the media industry, the part-time job means that the employee works for the set amount of hours or a fraction of a full-time contract. Job roles are likely to be part-time. There is no specific number of hours a part-time employee is expected to work. Part-time is ideal for students who want to get experience, media personalities with domestic responsibilities, the job is flexible and less pressure is involved. However, with a part-time job, there is no job security, health insurance, and retirement benefits.

A full-time job is when the employee works averagely around 35 hours per week. Full-time workers are employed on a permanent basis and are entitled to benefits such as retirement benefits and pensions, health insurance, job security, fixed and job advancement. However, with a full-time, it is hard for an employee to realize their true potential, lack various experiences, and becomes stagnant.

Working as a freelancer means that one is either employed or self-employed. Freelancers are responsible for their actions whether it is their holiday, pension, and sick days. Freelancers get work from clients through building a reputation and marketing themselves. Usually, freelancers are paid hourly rates. The disadvantage with freelancing is that there are no employer benefits, involves lots of legwork, and sometimes one may not get paid.

The Appeal of Freelancing

Freelancing is one of the flexible jobs that those wishing to join the media industry can consider. Freelancing is not an option that one can do just because they don’t have a real job but it’s something an individual can be part of even when they stand a chance to secure a good job. There is nothing that is more real than that of being the owner, financial and a director at the same time and that is the reason why I choose freelancing my ideal job. In this modern era, it is possible to live even without the traditional business security and that’s why freelancing is a good job although not many individuals would consider that.

Dynamism is one thing that makes freelancing an ideal job to me. There is this claim that small businesses can be maneuvered with great ease than traditional companies. The fact is, businesses spend time in deciding whether a business opportunity is worth risking but for a freelancer can quickly start with the realization with the help of a few colleagues. If a freelancing job doesn’t end up well or doesn’t reach success, a freelancer can try something that is completely different and new without counting loss. Therefore, through freelancing one has the option of testing the waters in different areas and in the process get the best path to follow. That may be difficult for professionals who are in other areas like permanent jobs.

Another thing that makes freelancing an ideal job is the fact that it involves lower costs. Insurance, utility costs, equipment, and running the business from an office building has become too expensive just like the standard of living had been on the rise. If one starts a business and profits realized are insufficient, the job is likely to fail as a result of the accumulation of costs. The good thing about being a freelancer is that there are no additional costs to incur. All that one needs is to register at a freelancing site like UpWork and Fiverr. However, that doesn’t mean that a freelancer doesn’t get harder times but when a problem arises they have no difficulties overcoming a crisis in the most convenient manner possible. Also, a freelancer can perform multiple tasks at the same time and that means that they have a greater chance to survive economic shocks than a big company that engages in a single activity or even entrepreneurs who know how to do things at once. A freelancer has a better chance to further educate, create a wide network of contacts, and as well acquire new skills that enable them to be very competitive in the work that they choose to deal with.

Work-Life Balance in Freelancing

In this era, what many employees are looking for is a job that gives them to be part of something different while still working. Not many jobs offer the freedom that many people are looking for. In most cases, the employee either in a part-time or full-time job work under a contract and thus they have to abide by the agreement because failure to do that can lead to legal consequences. Freelancing is totally different. Freelancers don’t work under contracts with their client and therefore they have the freedom to leave the work at any time if they are not satisfied. If the working conditions are not right, a freelancer can always quit and find a better job. Also, it is possible to work for different clients at the same time. Another thing that makes freelancing ideal for me is that it has flexible hours and I can work while still at home. Working from home means that I can comfortably balance family and work or my private life during which I can successfully support myself and family. Working from home can offer a comfortable life other jobs can’t offer although one has to be willing to work hard. The flexibility of freelancing would make it possible to synchronize work and family commitments.

As a freelancer, one is in a position of organizing working time so as it fits in one schedule whether it’s evening, morning, or afternoon. Therefore, the job gives convenience in that one can work some other jobs if it is possible to manage all obligations.

Skills Required for Freelancers

Working freelance means that an individual can control his or her own career, develop new skills and even decide how and when to work. There various skills that are required of a freelancer but that entirely depends on one’s line of specialization. The skills needed for freelancing are but not limited to content writing, blogging, graphic designing, search engine optimization, web development, social media, content marketing, editing and editing, email marketing, public relations and growth marketing. In this digital age, a freelancer can evolve his/her skills to needs the needs of the constantly changing market. A freelancer is expected to remain educated and agile with new tools, strategies, and tactics. Freelancers need to always ready to adapt to trends that will have the greatest returns for them and their clients. That means that freelancers can build their own skills.

Navigating Job Opportunities

Finding a freelancing job is not a major challenge especially during this era of technological innovations. Freelancers can get jobs through networking, social media, job sites, and professional associations. Networking is imperative because an employer will be more willing to give an employee a chance if they come recommended by someone they know and trust. To get a freelancing job,I would make my personal website, an electronic business card, and free advertising as my favorite social network. It is possible to leverage existing social media presence by announcing to connections that one is looking for work or post a notice on my profile that I am accepting freelance clients. In this industry, I would network myself with others by being an everyday networker, helping others often, and making friends with other freelancers, going to events, speaking at events and connecting to my contacts.
