There are a total of 23 candidates that are running for president in the 2020 election, there are 19 democrat candidates and 4 republican candidates. Out of all 23 candidates there will only be a few that will lead in the race one being Joe Biden. Joe Biden has impressive education, in 1965 he received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware he then went on to get his law degree from Syracuse University three years later. In 1966 one year after his graduation from the university he got married and later had three children. After his law school graduation Biden moved back to the town he grew up in which was new castle Delaware. He soon got into politics, he served on the Newcastle council from 1970 to 1972. He was than elected to be the U.S. senate, he was the fifth youngest person to ever be elected at only 29 years old. Biden wanted to stay senator he ended up winning six times, he was Delaware’s longest serving senate. In 2008 Biden ran for president, he placed fifth and later dropped out. On august 23 president Obama selected Biden to be his vice president nominee, he took his oath of office as vice president in 2009, Biden and Obama were reelected in 2012.

There are a lot of endless issues for a president to deal with some of the most important being gun control, climate change, education, health care, abortion and criminal justice, Biden also has specific views on how to change the middle class. Joe Biden’s view on gun control is that he would like to ban assault rifles and have universal background checks. Joe Biden has been for stronger gun control since before he became a vice president according to PBS.org “Biden also voted in 1993 for the Bradley bill, which established waiting periods for handgun purchases and created the current background system (Conciatori). “ Biden has strong views on climate change, when he was vice president he helped create the Paris climate accord. Biden always had strong views on the importance of climate change in 1986 when Biden was a senator he made a bill to create a task force for the issue. According to Pbs.org “Biden has called climate change an existential threat and has called for the Trump administration to take action on the issue (Conciatori).” When it comes to education Biden wants to make public college free. The reason for this is so everyone can get a good education. According to educationnext.org Biden said “Sixty-five out of 100 jobs today require more than a high school degree,” this quote is the reason for why he wants to make college free, you need a college education for over half the good jobs in the U.S. In 2015 president Obama also backed free community college but nothing ever came from it. The cost of free college will cost the government 6 billion dollars a year.

Joe Biden is also very strong on health care according to commonwealthfund.org “Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware unveiled a health care plan Tuesday that he said would provide health insurance for all children, provide more coverage options for adults, and focus on disease prevention and modernizing the nation's health care system (Carey).” This statement shows how important healthcare is to Biden and somethings he wants to do to change it for the better by helping everyone especially people in poverty. What he wants to do is give healthcare to kids in family’s that are in poverty which according to thecommonwealthfund.org “would be expanded to children in families with incomes of at least 300 percent of the federal poverty level, or $61,950 for a family of four, and coverage would be extended to at least age 21. (Carey).” Biden also wants the government to pay for 75 percent of peoples health cost in they cost over 50,000. Biden wants everyone to get healthcare he thinks “that health care should be a right for all and not a privilege for the few(Astor).”, according to When it comes to abortion it’s hard for him to have a really answer because he is a religious catholic. Too me it seems like Biden is not for abortion but he won’t make an anti-abortion laws or restrictions and, he doesn’t think he should bring his personal opinion onto others. When he was a senator he did vote against funding for abortions many times. According to the New York Times “he believes life begins at conception, though he emphasized that this was a personal view and that he did not think it was appropriate to impose it on others through abortion restrictions (Astor).” This quote explains his personal views on the matter but also, that if he became president his opinion on abortion won’t play a factor in making laws and restrictions. Joe Biden has a very strong view on the middle class according to his website he said that 'This country wasn’t built by Wall Street bankers and CEOs and hedge fund managers. It was built by the American middle class.' According to the Joe Biden website he also says We need to rebuild the middle class, and this time make sure everybody comes along regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or disability. These two statements Biden said shows how much he wants to change to make sure the middle class grows in America. Another issue that is important to Biden is improving the criminal justice system Biden also wants end racism in the criminal justice system he also wants to crack down on jail sentences that don’t fit the crime that was committed. According to Joe Biden’s website he also says “we have to take action to reduce gun violence and hate crimes, strengthen the landmark Violence against Women Act, and insist on real community policing that builds trust and makes every community safe.” This shows all the main points on things he wants to change in our criminal justice system. Joe Biden has been known to criticize our current president, Donald trump very often, he does not agree with a lot of the things Trump says. According to ballotpedia.org Biden said “if we give Donald Trump eight years in the white house, he will forever and fundamentally alter the character of this nation, who we are, and I cannot stand by and watch what that happen” I think this was the best quote to show that that overall joe Biden does not support Donald Trump.

The reason I find Biden interesting is because of all the tragedy he had in his life, his wife and daughter died in an accident and his son died from brain cancer, but with all this tragedy in his life he is still able to keep moving and endure all the stress and work that come with being the president, and politics in general. I don’t agree with all of his views but I have to respect the fact after everything that happened he’s still working hard. I think that with all of Biden’s ideas that a lot of people will support him, making it likely for him to play a role in the 2020 election.
