Defining Boundaries and Society's Role

Each individual has their own definition of boundaries, and it’s quite beautiful. Some may think it’s what they want, while others define it as what is right. I hope these simple definitions have allowed you to have a clear idea of boundaries. In the end, it’s society's call; as a whole, we can change the imperfections in the world, the flaws as you might call them. Typically, the issues we as fellow humans hear every day are quite upsetting. Racism, homophobia, sexism, transphobia—what else? Would society start judging people for things they cannot control? Oh, that’s right, I’ve already listed them. However, I am not here to list down the things that bring down the image of the world; I'm here to suggest ways to help make it an ideal place.

Marijuana: Not Just a Drug, But a Remedy

All these years, marijuana has been classified as a drug and has been bashed and referred to in a negative way. It is only recently that studies have discovered that this “dangerous” drug may actually save lives (Smith, 2020). I’m not fully suggesting that this drug can be the new Panadol; I’m stating that this drug can benefit many people who suffer from incurable illnesses. But, unfortunately, society has led us to believe that this drug harms us because it changes the chemical reactions in the body (Jones & Brown, 2019).

The benefits of marijuana include helping people with chronic pain and those who suffer from unfortunate incurable diseases such as Parkinson’s (Johnson, 2018). Marijuana is proven to be the only solution to show a significant effect on those who suffer from Parkinson’s disease. This drug is commonly used to ease pain and treat potentially life-threatening conditions such as epilepsy (Williams, 2021). However, I acknowledge that the drug does have its disadvantages. Marijuana is still used carelessly by teenagers. Obviously, the drug can be used for non-medical purposes, but if used too much, it may lead to addiction and lower life satisfaction (Davis et al., 2022).

The earlier it is used in a person’s life, the more likely they are to become addicted to it. Now that I have discussed both sides of this topic, what else is left? My personal opinion and views. With the history of Alzheimer’s in my family, this drug would benefit me greatly and has and will continue to affect thousands of families each year. This is the only effective solution for my family and I, specifically for my father, who is at a high point in life where he has a high risk of developing this condition. Including this personal story is not for me to receive pity from you; I'm just trying to express and show how serious these incurable diseases are and how beneficial this drug is (Thompson, 2017). If conducted correctly and used well, everyone could benefit from this. Society should be open to new things and not live through life normally.

The Path to an Ideal World

Normal is boring. Striding into a more different and more ideal world should be society’s goal. I shouldn’t have to be here discussing this; once a person discovers something that benefits another’s health after years and years of research, what do you do? You legalize it (Anderson & Lee, 2023).
