Mark Zuckerberg was born on May 14, 1984, in White Plains, New York. He is the co-founder of the social-networking website Facebook, which makes him one of the world’s youngest billionaires. His father, Edward Zuckerberg, was dentist and his office was attached to the their home. His mother, Karen, was as a psychiatrist before of their children’s birth.
Mark Zuckerberg had 3 sisters, Randi, Donna and Arielle. He was raised as a Jewish and he became a Bar Mitzvah when he turned 13. He started using computers and writing software programs at early age. His dad showed Atari BASIC Programming, which he used Atari BASIC to create a messaging program he named “Zucknet.”His father used this program in his dental office, so that the receptionist could inform him of a new patient without yelling across the room. The family also used Zucknet to communicate within the house. In addition to Zuckerberg. He did so well in his classes. He transferred to the really good private school in New Hampshire. In his junior year he won prizes in math, astronomy, physics and classical studies. Before his college application he said that he could read and write French, Hebrew, Latin, and ancient Greek. Zuckerberg started classes at Harvard, and he already achieved a “reputation as a programming prodigy”. He studied classes like psychology and computer science. In his sophomore year, he created a program that he called CourseMatch.
After a while he created a different program he called Facemash that let students choose who was the best looking person from a choice of photos. His roommate Arie Hasit said “he built the site for fun”. So Zuckerberg was creating programs were fun back then. His roommate said “We had books called Face Books, which included the names and pictures of everyone who lived in the student dorms. At first, he built a site and placed two pictures, or pictures of two males and two females. Visitors to the site had to choose who was “hotter” and according to the votes there would be a ranking.” The site became really popular in a week, but next Monday, Harvard shut it down. Because it overwhelmed one of Harvard’s WiFi and it didn’t let students get in the internet. Also more importantly some students complained that, they used their pictures and informations without getting permission. The next semester, in January 2004, Zuckerberg started to write a new website. On February 4, 2004, Zuckerberg created “Thefacebook”.
Zuckerberg and his friends created a site that allowed users to create their own profiles, upload photos, and communicate with other users. The group ran the site out of a dorm room at Harvard until June 2004. After his sophomore year, Zuckerberg dropped out of college to dedicate himself to Facebook full time, He moved his company to Palo Alto, California. By the end of the year, Facebook had 1 million users, which is pretty amazing.
In 2005, Zuckerberg’s enterprise received a huge boost from the venture capital firm Accel Partners. Accel invested $12.7 million into the network, which at the time was open only to ivy league students. They pushed the site’s membership to more than 5.5 million users by December 2005. He didn’t want to sell out his company, he turned down offers from companies such as Yahoo! and MTV Networks. Instead, he focused on expanding the site, opening up his project to outside developers and adding more features.
