Role and Meaning of The Phrase "Just Do It" in My Life

When I think about what phrase that is significant in my life it would be “Just Do It”. I know that it might seem funny that I would choose the Nike slogan as a phrase that is significant in my life. In saying this it is not just the Nike slogan to me. In fact it is an actual thing I say to myself when I don’t feel like doing something. This saying has been imbedded into my mind every since the first time I heard it. I use the phrase the most to remind myself to have strength, courage, determination and dedication each day in my life.

The phrase gives me both mental and physical strength the moment I walk into the gym to the second I leave. There are a few examples to why it gives me physical strength while in the gym. One of the examples is when I am at the gym and it makes me stay long enough to actually get work done. Another way that “Just Do It” gives me physical strength is it gives me that extra push for that extra set that I have to do to finish my workout. The mental strength it gives me is when I don’t feel like going to the gym at all one day so I say the phrase to myself so I will go to the gym to get better. The last mental strength is gives me is to overall get motivated. Strength is not the only major part when we talk about what this phrase gives me.

Courage is another great example when we talk about what the phrase gives me as a whole. The saying especially gives me the courage while at a job interview and in school. Before going into a job interview I would always say the phrase to myself. I could not explain how saying these three words would take all of the fear and nerves away but they just did. Having all of the fear and nerves off of my mind, I could go to the interview not thinking about whether I get the job or not but knowing that I will but the best effort into it as I can. The way it gives me courage in school is right before a big test or presentation, I would always wonder how I would do and what grade I would get. That right there is the reason why I say the Nike slogan to myself because it gets my mind off of whether or not I do the best on the presentation or get the best grade on the test but to tell myself just to do the best of my ability. It’s very important to do what is needed to be done in the instance of you getting the grades you need in school or just to get the job of your dreams. I try to not just focus on saying it to myself but to also say it to friends and family when they don’t feel the best when needing to do something. Just something about this phrase that makes you not want to just sit around but want to get up and do something. It not just that this phrase just gives me strength and courage but it also gives me determination.

It gives me determination when I don’t have school on my off days and the weekends and I have a project due when I go back no matter what day it is I need to “Just Do It”. The phrase just makes me want to get up in the mornings of those off days that I have and just to get that work done so I can enjoy the rest of my day off. I always tell myself to get the work done early and not to procrastinate and do it late.It also gives me the determination to do everyday tasks such as homework, workouts and when I need to do yard work at the house. Nobody really likes doing yard work unless you are just an outdoor person that really likes doing yard work. In my case I have never really liked the idea of doing any kind of yard work but the slogan just helps me get what is needs to be done, finished. The Nike slogan has given me strength, courage and determination but there is just one more I have to talk about and that is dedication.

When you think about the word dedication, you think of being committed to a task or purpose. Some tasks that I usually have for myself to do on a daily bases is to workout and to do assignments for school. The phrase “Just Do It” is very important when dealing with these tasks.The reason I say that is because without telling myself the phrase I would not get the tasks I set for myself done. When we talk about being dedicated to a purpose the Nike slogan helps me there too. It helps me there because when I go to the gym, there is a purpose of going and that is to get better every time you step through the door. When I do assignments for school, there is also a purpose to that task and it is to do overall do well in school. I would not be dedicated to the tasks and the purposes of those tasks without the saying “Just Do It”.

This saying has been more to me than just a few words. It has given me the strength and motivation to be successful in life. Its insane to think that I model my whole life after these three words but it just helps me when I’m down and have to get something done. When I’m feeling discouraged, I always say it to myself and end up just doing it. It has helped me overcome many obstacles in my life and I will continue to use this throughout my college career and beyond.
