Medical technology can be considered as any type of technology used to save and protect the lives of individuals suffering from a wide range of diseases and medical conditions. Radiology nurses or medical imaging nurses generally focus on patients that are preparing for diagnostic imaging procedures. These nurses are constantly surrounded by eye-opening medical technologies placed in hospitals. Some of the most well-known diagnostic imaging tests include x-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds and MRIs. These imaging tests enable medical professionals to have an insight on a patient’s body, making it easier to diagnose illnesses and injuries with minor errors. Radiology nurses also have the responsibility of monitoring their patients vital signs, this includes the patient’s body temperature, pulse rate, respiration rate and more. These specific nurses ensure that patients are mentally and emotionally ready to undergo medical procedures.

Radiology or medical imaging nurses are careers geared towards individuals who love technology, as these nurses are constantly being exposed to new and innovative medical machinery. In comparison to radiology nurses, telemetry nurses typically work with one specific medical technology rather than multiple medical equipments. Telemetry nurses monitor patient vital signs with an electrocardiogram. An electrocardiogram is a test that records the electrical activity of your heart over a period of time through small electrode patches that a technician attaches to the skin. These nurses care to patients with a variety of acute diagnoses and treat patients with diabetes and heart failure. Telemetry nurses also perform numerous assessments on their patients, some of which include measuring their blood pressure and breathing levels. Nurses that focus on medical technologies are extremely significant because in today’s society, technology is constantly infiltrating our lives.

Nutrition:Nutritional nurses and gastroenterology nurses have jobs that fit under the nutrition category. Nutrition is the study of the nutrients in food, how the body uses these nutrients, and the relationship between diet, health, and disease. Nutritional nurses have specific jobs that include providing advice to patients about how to prevent health problems through the diets of their patients. These nurses can also plan food and diet regimens for their patients who are interested in maintaining their health. Nutritional nurses also record the input and output of food balance. These nurses are responsible for patients who are not capable of eating and drinking normally, these patients require special feeding tubes to receive nutrition in liquid form.

Gastroenterology nurses are more specialized in the digestive system, these nurses diagnose and treat patients experiencing problems with their digestive system and gastrointestinal tract (GI tract). Gastroenterology nurses are familiar with a number of diseases including crohn’s disease, constipation, acid reflux, etc. These nurses also tract fluid balances. To make a proper assessment of fluid balance, nurses need to fully understand the concept of fluid intake and urine output. Nurses who are focused on nutrition are immensely important because they understand how the body works and what the body needs to be healthy.

Pathogens and Disease:Oncology, infectious disease and cardiovascular nurses are all similar in the sense that they focus more on patients with diseases. Oncology nurses provide care for cancer patients, they are responsible for helping the patient understand the nature of their disease, their treatment plan and possible side effects. Infectious disease nurses have a range of duties, some of which include: providing care for patients suffering from HIV, giving the patients their prescribed antibiotics and preventing the spread of infectious agents. In case of a widespread contamination occurring, an infectious disease nurse will be required to take steps to help contain the infection. To understand more about a specific pathogen and its origin, an infectious disease nurse might also study the makeup and structure of it. Infectious disease nurses or infection control nurses are extremely important because they have a hand in preventing dangerous outbreaks and epidemics. These nurses prevent a pandemic from occurring by managing vaccines. Vaccines have the ability to provide patients with active acquired immunity and protection against a particular disease. In many hospital and clinics, theses nurses are responsible for administering vaccines to the public. Cardiovascular nurses care for patients with heart diseases. These nurses are also given the role of caring for patients who are recovering from cardiac procedures, such as bypass or pacemaker surgery. All three of these nurses have the ability to help patients who are suffering from a certain disease. Public Health Public health, geriatric, psychiatric, mental health and gerontological nurses are crucial in today’s society. Public health nurses support population health and provide health care services for the aging population. They focus on health promotion, diseases prevention, health surveillance and many more. In today’s society where the number of seniors living in Canada are outnumbering the number of children, there are geriatric or gerontological nurses that provide care for the aging population. These nurses centre their attention on the elderly who are at greater risks of diseases like osteoporosis, alzheimer’s and cancer. Psychiatric nurses are important because they take care of patients suffering from a range of mental illnesses that include bipolar disorders, depression, anxiety and more. These nurses are required to create an individualized plan to give their patient in hopes that it will lead them to live a more productive life. Nurses that specialize in mental illnesses are important because suffering from a mental illness is becoming more common in today’s day and age. Each and every one of these nurses provide care for the public. Without the care of these nurses, the state of the overall public health could lead to a drastic downfall.
