The 18th Century WorldThe thirteen colonies of British North America are grouped into four regions such as New England Colonies, the Middle Colonies, the Chesapeake Colonies, and the Southern Colonies. Each of these regions began differently, and they continued on diverse paths of development over the course. There were a majority of differences and similarities when comparing and contrasting the New England colonies with the Middle colonies. In terms of similarities in regional economy, in some of the Middle colonies, the jobs were alike to those in the New England colonies. In places such as New York and New Jersey, manufacturing and trade was quite popular, which was similar to the New England colonies. The climate and soil in New York and New Jersey was alike to that of New England. Farming was present in both regions, while there were major differences between two as well. Another similarity is that both of the regions were active for independence. These colonies were also different in when it came to religious views.
The Middle Colonies and New England were diverse in the way in which New England was largely Puritan. There was a small amount of religious tolerance. While family life was accommodated surrounding the Puritan church. The Middle Colonies contained diverse religions, as was Pennsylvania being was popular for Quakers. At the sametime the Quakers also offered people with religious tolerance. Also, while New England did not encourage settlement by people that were not Puritans. The Middle Colonies were more easy going and did allow immigration of diverse individuals. Religious freedom was apparent in the Middle colonies than in the New England colonies. In areas like Pennsylvania this was specifically true.
Some slaves were present in The Middle Colonies while the New England colonies had a small amount of slaves. This was in fact also true because there was more scale farming in the southern area of the Middle colonies. In that area the soil was much more rich and the climate was far more suitable for farming. Another difference was the type of farming which was carried out. In the New England colonies, people partook in subsistence farming. These farmers grew an amount of crops for their the family they were in , but at the same time did not have a lot left to sell to other individuals. While in the Middle colonies, there were farmers which grew crops for profit.
The New England colonies and the Middle colonies contained both similarities and differences when dealing within ethnic diversity and demographic profiles. Unlike the colonies in the Chesapeake and the South, the Middle and New England colonies had relatively less slaves and farms. In the regions of the Chesapeake and South colonies the economies were based on agriculture. In the Middle and New England colonies there was more of a diversified economy with based on small farms. To add, the Middle Colonies and New England had simpler forms of industry.
