According to The Famous People website Pitbull was born on January 15, 1981 in Miami Florida. Pitbull’s real name is Armando Christian Perez, and he is 37 years old. His parents were from Cuba making his ethnicity Cuban, but he is considered one of the most influential Latino artists, due to the music he makes.
He chose the name Pitbull because the dog is everything he aspires to be such as strong. One of his many known nicknames “Mr. Worldwide” was given to him when he became famous and was known worldwide due to his music.
Published in September of 2009, MTV News website called, Pitbull’s rise to fame has been ‘an Education’, states that Pitbull before he became famous he was rapping in back alleys of Miami, but after publishing many of his singles and a record company called TVT Records signed Pitbull and made him known in the music industry. His songs “I Know You Want Me” was a top-20 single and another song called “Hotel Room Service” was number ten in the country. He still continues to have songs in the top charts today.
Pitbull gives Latino’s a positive image to his culture. His songs and raps are a mixture of Spanish and English. Pitbull is an overall a role model for many Latinos because of what he represents. Pitbull donates to many charities, and foundations according to the website, Look to the Stars and supports many causes such as “Cancer, Education, Poverty, Adoption, AIDS, and Orphans, etc.”
In an article written by Vanity Fair, in 2016 Pitbull talked to Donald Trump about his views on Latino to try to get insight on why Trump felt the way he did. With Pitbull’s ties to the Mexican and Cuban community he tried to talk to Trump and give him insight on what it’s like living in Poverty, and what Latino’s must go through, such as migrating to a new place with nothing, to try to better their future’s just like his family did when his parents moved from Cuba to Miami in hopes for the “American Dream”. Talking to Trump makes Pitbull a representative for the Latino culture because of his understanding of what happening now and how it’s still relevant to what’s happening today with the borers and immigrants.
The Latino culture has many things, such as dances and music and celebrations, in many of Pitbull’s songs the music is a part of the Latino culture. I think Pitbull represents a positive image of Latinos because of all the charities and help he provides for others. Although others may disagree such as the article called The Guardian by saying he gives Latino’s a bad rap by his lyrics that objectify women and dry-humps his dancers on stage. I think that what’s important to look at is what he’s trying to do, which is help people, and society is making him make those videos because those videos get more views with the girls and the way he dances with them is common in how people dance with each other.
Many people see Pitbull as talented and powerful, for instance Sofia Vergara said in the article by Vanity Fair, “(Pitbull) One thousand present Latino talent and power. He is happily enjoying the ride to success, being proud of his roots, and coming from nowhere to conquer the American Dream.” Since they both came from Miami Sofia Vergara is greatly inspired by Pitbull and shows immense pride from coming from the same the place.
Another nickname Pitbull has, according to The Famous People, is “Mr.305” which is the area code to Miami in which Pitbull takes great pride to his roots back in Miami where he grew up. I connect to this subject personally, because growing up in a Hispanic/Latino household, I didn’t really like any Mexican music growing up unless it was Selena. But when I found out about Pitbull I fell in love and started to like his music, although some of it is provocative I think he did good getting Latino’s in the spotlight and in his contributions to society I can really relate a lot to him because of how his parents were immigrants coming to the United States, and I think he’s very inspiring from starting out in the alleys of Miami to what he is now shows how much potential and dedication he had to become successful. Which inspires me and I’m sure many others to follow his lead and become dedicate to make dreams come true.
I think his fame and music was a significant contribution to the Latino society. I also love his name “Pitbull” because of what it stands for, for being tenacious and ambitious. Overall, I think Pitbull contributed greatly in the Latino society, and continues to represent Latino’s in a positive way.
