Intelligence is usually defined as our intellectual potential; something we are born with, something which will be measured, and a capacity that is strenuous to alter.
Although recently other views have emanated.
One of those is the theory of multiple intelligences proposed by psychologist Howard Gardner. Kendra Cherry (2019) Gardner’s Theory Of Multiple Intelligences [Online]. Available at: https://www.mendeley.com/guides/harvard-citation-guide (Accessed: 25 March 2020)
Peter Honey and Alan Mumford identified four distinct learning styles or preferences: Activist, Theorist, Pragmatist, and Reflector. Honey and Mumford [Online]. Available at: https://www2.le.ac.uk/departments/doctoralcollege/mumford (Accessed: 25 March 2020)
I’ve taken a Honey & Mumford questionnaire to define my learning style. Based on the results I’m identified as a Pragmatist and Reflector. That means I’m able to put the learning into practice and learn by observing and thinking about past experiences. With this information in mind, I’ve also taken a quiz to determine my type of intelligence. It transpired that the top 3 of my intelligence are Visual, Musical, and Interpersonal. First of all, visual intelligence helps me learn through visual aids such as graphs, diagrams, pictures, and displays. People with visual intelligence are good at remembering images and can visualize almost anything, which can be helpful at exams or creating a project. Second of all, musical intelligence defines skills related to sounds and music. It can also be helpful at lectures since people with that type of intelligence are high auditory. Third of all, interpersonal intelligence, thrives on social interactions, whether it would be establishing rapport with strangers or easily making friends with someone. This type of intelligence allows me to work well with others in group projects and presentations.
Based on this information, my strengths and weaknesses are identified.
According to Honey & Mumford and Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, I tend to think a lot about my work and make conclusions based on analysis, rather than jumping in then thinking. This implies that my answers would be based on actual proof and logic, rather than assumptions and hypotheses. My interpersonal intelligence allows me to get along with each group of mates. Which can be really helpful in group projects or interviews. Considering my reflector learning style, for me, it takes a lot of time to come up with an idea or a comprehensive answer, hence why I have problems writing essays on time.
In conclusion, I have identified my type of intelligence and learning style, and have an examination of them as well. It allows me to know more about myself, which can help with choosing a career path.
