A Music Therapist works with children, adults or the elderly, assessing a patient’s mental or physical disorders and disabilities before developing a therapeutic treatment plan. They assess emotional well being, social functioning, communication skills through music sessions. You can work at an adult day care, rehab center, hospital or even go to peoples houses and do your job there. This job offers Health Benefits and its annual salary is $48,190-61,090. Before you are able to be in the job, you should take these high school electives to help you get the correct education: Women's Choir, Band, Music Theory, Anthropology, Sociology, AP Psychology, and possibly even Spanish. These courses will help you get a deeper understanding of each part of the job.

To qualify for the job, you need a Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy. You are required to take a completion of courses in both music and therapy. Plus courses in Music Theory. You can also be eligible to sit for the National Board Certification exam to obtain the credential MT-BC ( Certification Board for Music Therapists) which is needed for professional practice. The test has a $50 fee to take it.

The College Major that is required is, Music Therapy. Colleges that offer this major is the University of Georgia, Arizona State University, Montclair State University, and Florida State University. There is a likely job openings in the future. The field grew by 11%.
