My Bloody Life was an amazing book for this class, not only did it tell us so much about his life, how he grew up, the ways his family treated him. It explained to us why he did the things he did, growing up and being abused day after day, having to deal with the hatred of his own mother and his step-father(s) beatings. They continuously made him feel lonely, and through that he began to try to find reassurance outside of the home, especially after being taken out of school and kicked out and moving, all traumatic things that led him into a life not only filled with crime, but rape and not realizing that sleeping with a 35-year-old woman was something wrong.
Reymundo experienced numerous things that just showed us that every single he went through contributed to who he became and how fast he fell into crime. He had seen crime around him his entire life, it became something he was accustomed to even though education at a time had been a release for him. All his negative experiences and traumas from birth to where he ended at I believe 19 years old, the one thing that benefited him the most was his education and the healthy group of friends he had in the start. If he stayed in school, if his mother was loving and protected him, if he was told not to do these certain things I truly believe he would not have ended up in the same position, one thing changing can change someone’s entire life. His mother played such a huge part in the downfall of his life, she could have changed everything with just her actions and words.
Reymundo had committed numerous crimes but these are the ones that stuck with me till the end, one being when he had been with Hercules and Pebbles and they were apparently testing out the new guy, they took him to a certain area, showed him how to use a gun. Told him to jump out and Reymundo did, he jumped out he shot wounding multiple people and shooting one man point blank and killing him, he had no remorse and justified it with “them being niggers”.
Another crime committed would be the rape of Jenny, when she obviously did not want to have sex with him, this being the first actual rape of his, she deliberately said she did not want to. But as stated in the book all he cared about was his pleasure he did not care if she sat there and cried the entire time, as long as he was getting the pleasure he wanted. The third crime I want to speak upon and I know these are only some of the horrid things he did but these just showed me early on that he could have been helped, he only escalated after every single incident.
The third crime would be when he set a trap for the two gangsters sprayed them in the face with spray paint then slammed it on one of their heads opening it and then as a group running him over with a van that knocked him to the side walk. And the thing that killed me was that they had celebrated after and were happy and laughing, he did that. I find that so important to acknowledge because we see where his guilt fades it eventually comes back here and there but it fades and he starts to embed this incredibly desensitized individual.
