My Family Job Tree

My family has a variety of jobs including army server, navy server, marine server, civil engineer, etc. Most of my family is somehow connected to the military whether it be a server or a civil engineer. I don't think my military job history positively affected my career choice. Seeing what my parents went through made me not want to enlist in the army. My parents have suffered through many injuries because of the army including knee pain, back pain, and wrist pain.

Most of my family members including my mom, dad, and two of my great grandfathers. They had different jobs such as the army, navy, and marines. They all stayed/will stay in at least 20 years so that they will be able to receive their retirement check. A reason that I don't want to enlist is that when you're in the army, you have to take orders from your boss and I don't like taking orders from others. Also, I don't want to put my kids through what I went through. I had to move every three years and that made doing everything that a kid should do very hard.

There are several different, important reasons that I wish to attend Duke. One reason is, Duke has the No. 1 medical program in the country, tied with the University of Iowa. They also have a great basketball team that I think I could greatly contribute to if I could get a scholarship. The reason I am such a fan of Duke is that I grew up watching Duke basketball and my whole family is a huge fan of them and has been for a long time. Another reason is that I want to represent my home state of North Carolina and what better way than going to the best college my home state has to offer.

When I grow up I am going to be a chiropractor and I am going to have my own business named Thompson&Thompson Chiropractic Center. My dad is going to help me get my business up and running by loaning me some money to get my business built. My mom owns a credit repair and tax return business. When my dad retires from the military, he is going to own a pc shop where people can come and play video games. The fact that they own their businesses has encouraged me to further plan my business in dept.

In conclusion, I feel that my family has had good and bad impacts on my career choice. A negative way is seeing all the pain that my parents had/have to endure from the military. A positive way is them encouraging me and my business and being very supportive. Everyone in my family is very supportive of my business plans and is very proud of me.
