My Identity Description

The ability for one to identify self in the immediate environment is an essential component. My identity can be explained in my personality and the continuous interaction in the environments I have been since I was young. Finding an identity is not a one-time phenomenon. I believe that identifying myself is a lifelong aspect. After all, psychologists argue that one’s identity orients and changes over time. I find it essential to understand myself identifying so that I live well, interact smoothly with others and pursue my goals. I realize that there ar many things to identify with; my family, my gender, my college, community, race, religion and even the choices that I make every single day. Both the choice and factors I have no control over eventually help define who I am and therefore the role I have in life. Rather life is a broad term, and I realize the role I play in various environments such as home, church, school, and community.

I am a male youth born in a white family of four. My family, a sister, two brothers, mother, and father, have to a great extent shaped who I am. I come from a Christian family who practices Christianity as opposed to being church goers. It implies that I, and my siblings, have been brought up in a Christian background and need to live a righteous life. Since I was young, my parents have enabled me to make good choices by teaching me that the world is cruel, and it needs a wise, God-fearing and relentless person. I greatly appreciate them for impacting good moral and Christian beliefs that I hold dear to this day. In my role as a brother, family and community member, I have been drawn to helping others and doing good. Virtues such as patience, hard work, hope, and resilience have been impacted to me by my parents who have taken great effort to bring us up in the best way they can. The essential nature of our actions and interactions with others over time shapes who we become, and the place we hold in the society. My identity and the intrinsic role I play in the community, college, society and in religious matters depicts who I am. Over years, we define who we are, through our actions, associations, and relationships with others. Importantly, the path we take in life and the choices we make help to depict our personality and role we play in our respective families, colleges, communities, place of worship and society. The people around us such as parents, siblings, and peers contribute to our identity and help shape who we become over time.
