My Motivation to Get a Bachelor Degree in Nursing

This letter is to put forth my desire of acquiring a Bachelor degree in nursing. Before that, I need to complete a one year pre-nursing program is aimed at preparing me for the accelerated Nursing degree offered in Brandon University. This program provides aspiring students with the prerequisites required for attaining a BSCN. As an international student, this program plays an important intermediary role in a student nurse’s educational path. It is my earnest desire to continue from where I left off after completing my diploma in nursing in 2015. With my working experience of about 3 years now, I have decided to progress further in my career by acquiring a degree in nursing. My decision to further is as a result of the cases and diseases I have seen in the health sector, which requires advance knowledge and skills. Caring for lives is a very delicate aspect that requires consistent studies and skill improvement, the choice born of wanting a greater depth of knowledge and supervised clinical practice using the nursing process while caring for patents.

For me, nursing is so much more than a calling, at a tender age, I visited the hospitals and also looked after my sick mum, where I got inspired by nurses with the holistic care they gave to their patients. This helped my mum a great deal through her recovery process. Ever since caring for patients has brought joy to my soul. It is my desire to contribute immensely in the health care system in Nigeria. This has led me into making enquires to study in one of the best country with high educational standards and sophisticated health care system. I researched about UK, USA and Canada. Base on my analysis, I found Canada suitable in terms of standard education, peaceful country, superb health care infrastructure and affordable educational system. I narrowed down my search to Brandon University where I found it to be conducive for international students with a high ranking for undergraduate studies. I strongly believe that the knowledge I had from my diploma program in nursing has given me the needed foundation to excel in my first degree.

I have 3 years professional working experience has a nurse, 1 year in Mercy and Favour Clinic and 2 years in Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital. Currently I am working with Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, Nigeria, where my job description is to take care of patients and administer medications. In the course of working in a Teaching Hospital, I have come across so many students that are looking up to me to educate, most of which are undergraduate students. This I believe can be feasible by acquiring further knowledge in the said field. Developing myself further through acquiring an international degree in nursing will pave out way in my career and make me stand out amidst my colleagues as regards to my desire of becoming a director of nursing service in the institution I work with.

In most practical term, Nigeria is a developing country that needs more internationally trained nurses who will join forces to improve our health care sector. On completion of my studies, I will return to Nigeria to contribute immensity my quarter to the health care facility I’m working with and demonstrate my knowledge gained to help upcoming nurses. Also my future goal is to establish a clinic on the land given to me by my father and further spread my skills by helping sick patients in my community.
