My Motivation to Pursue a Graduate Program in Business Analytics

Being academically excellent, my GPA is “4. 0” as per WES Online calculator. The undergrad courses that I have done, have all played a crucial part in the development of fundamental concepts necessary for pursuing Business Analytics. Throughout the same, I have come to appreciate business analytics as the backbone of success for any business, which inspired me to learn International Business and Analytics.

Currently, I am pursuing a Masters in Commerce degree with the specialization in International Business. Also, I am a Chartered Accountant (Final) Student and have completed my three years of articleship in the field of Finance, Audit, Accounting, and Taxation. Being conversant with big data, as well as gaining analytical skills, provides graduates with an edge in the job market for the foreseeable future as big data becomes central to accounting and audit. In my opinion, Chartered Accountants are trained to be good with numbers and are trusted advisors because they have a fiduciary duty. Predictive accounting requires merely a mind shift from reactive to proactive coupled with willingness to embrace data and technology. Thus, during my work experience as a Senior Finance Assistant and Tax Advisor later, I decided to pursue a career in analytics and realized that my current work experience is not enough to satiate my thirst for knowledge and pursuing a graduate degree will not only quench the thirst but will also help me understand much more granular details.

In my quest for a graduate program that will provide me with a steep learning curve and fulfill my short-term goal of combining the best academic tools available with practicum exposure and acquire the necessary skill sets required to accomplish my long-term goal of being an analytics specialist, I found the MSBA program at US Davis to be an ideal choice. I attended various training related to Information Technology and have an unbelievable extracurricular record. Being elected to the Students Association under “The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India” I won with the second highest and represented 2, 25, 000 approx. students in the Northern region of my country. As an athlete, I was captivated by how experts of the game could correlate a high number of metrics which defined the performance of a player and then predicted the result of their next match, leaving me astonished when their predictions turned out to be accurate to the last detail.

By pursuing graduate studies in business analytics, I wish to explore the dynamic field of big data analytics, predictive analytics and machine learning in depth to create stories from an intricate mosaic of data. I always wanted to do something in practical life for the society and there can be nothing better than working for the upliftment of the society, thereby volunteered in few Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). I am a fitness enthusiast, which is evident from my weight loss journey, as I lost somewhere around 55 pounds since last year. MSBA Department at UC Davis appears to provide me with opportunities, resources, and a community which promotes an open exchange of ideas and exposes students to firm’s issues of concern, and their business analytics solutions as well as gained knowledge about the company and its business practices and is supported by the advantages of a new department with close relationships with mentors, dynamic community of scholars and industry experts and deep connections with Bay Area companies on the forefront of the Big Data revolution. I am currently developing another skill, by taking a computer programming course and learning various languages like Python, R etc. that will make me even more effective before pursuing this program.

I am extremely motivated to pursue this program and will devote maximum energy to succeeding if I am admitted, and I believe my skills make me a strong candidate.
