My Motivation to Study Photonics Systems

From my childhood, I always long for a life of fulfillment in Engineering field, in my secondary school days when I was introduced to Optics in Physics. I always pay considerable attention to even a minute details in my education in order for my knowledge to keep increasing gradually. At different stages of my personal development and career, I tend to make well-defined objectives so that I can get a sense of achievement whenever the objective is fulfilled. The MASc will provide me with the opportunity to have good background knowledge in Photonics and its wide range of applications, learn more about Optical Fiber sensing, methods of fabrication, Silicon-based photonics and prepare me for a Doctoral Program in the same field which is my primary aim for taking this second Master’s degree, which I hope to fast-track it if possible. At the moment I have formulated new objective - to update and enrich my knowledge in Photonics Systems by seeking another Master’s Program at the Department of Electronics of Carleton University. I am convinced that such program will not only prove the milestone for my quest for academic excellence but professional excellence. With all these, I should be able to fit in diverse of industries ranging from Oil and gas, aerospace, infrastructure, biomedical, automotive and communication.

I have full confidence to commence your challenging program as I have already gotten sound academic build up through my graduate program in Laser Measurement Technology at the Department of Laser Measurement and Navigation Systems of St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University, undergraduate program in Electrical Engineering and Technologies at the department of Electrical Engineering and System Technologies of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, My 6-years program in combine made me proficient and increasingly interested in Photonics systems. Basic courses and topics like Electronics and Microprocessor technology, Digital Circuit, Analog Circuit, industrial electronics, Signal and System taught me how to proceed with a basic concept, from which to generalize a principle, leading to methodology and to technology. Courses such as Optoelectronics, wave optics, and Mathematical Modeling exposed me to the underlying principles governing diverse approaches. The more advanced courses in Fiber and Integrated Optics, Laser Technique, Laser Systems & Applications, Laser measuring Systems, Laser and Fiber Optics Technology led me to the development of cutting-edge technologies and researches in the world. Then my Industrial practices, interdisciplinary projects and Final Research work enabled me to improve my hands-on abilities, real time applications and research capabilities.

Due to my academic performance in Undergraduate level, I was awarded a Russian Government Scholarship to study Master’s program in Russia. Other honors include Outstanding Leadership award and Best International Student award.

In addition, I served as a Student Chapter President of SPIE in my University (the International Society of Optics and Photonics) SPIE is a not-for-profit society advancing light-based technologies. I formed this society for the first time in my University, between August 2017 and June 2018 which I served as the President, our local chapter has implemented lots of programs to mention few, we organized science-fair for high school kids, worked with optical kits to display simple phenomena of light like diffraction, reflection and so on with kids. We invited two guest lectures to our University, one from United Kingdom and the other from South Africa, organized public lectures on how to make good presentation and to write research papers. I have also participated in voluntary services organized by the University working in team. All these programs gave me opportunity to gain interdisciplinary experience, leadership experience and team work.

I am convinced that I should continue my education at Carleton University. Research area Photonics is of great interest to me.

I am confident that graduate study at Carleton University would be a great step towards my goal.
