“Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time, and always start with the person nearest you. ” – Mother Teresa
Such a beautiful thought to think about. I believe if someone can help somebody, they should always do it because it might not change the world but it might change that person’s life. We often forget about the elderly people due to our hectic lives. They need love and attention as much as everyone. My goal in life is that I become a better person and help people as much as I can because of the feeling of accomplishment I get when I help someone is beyond anything. In order to achieve my dream and goals I need the best education possible, so with this letter, I would like to clear my intentions about why I want to study in Canada.
My name is Sandeep Kaur. I was born on 31st December 1989 in Punjab. Growing up, my parents always made sure that all of my and my sibling's needs were met. They always encouraged us to study and often reminded all of us that the purpose of education is to gain knowledge not only mark. Being the oldest of my siblings, indirectly they taught me a lot of things, one being that sometimes patience is the key to understand someone. This mantra helped me in many situations.
Knowing how important education is I always gave my hundred per cent to my studies. In the year 2005 I did my matriculation and after that, I completed my senior secondary education in the year 2007. As helping others is my passion I opted to study for the Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery. I completed my course in 2011. Upon completion of my course, I started working as a staff nurse in a very reputable Fortis hospital from August 2011 to September 2012. At that time I felt like I needed more knowledge in this field. So after that, I started my degree course of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Post basic). This program I completed in the year 2014. Again I started working for the ACE Heart and Vascular Institute as a CCU/ICU Staff nurse from November 2015 to January 2017. I got married on the 20th of February 2017. I consider myself very fortunate to have such a loving husband and in-laws. From the beginning, they were supportive of my career. When I told my husband about the difficulties I was facing, while I was working as a nurse. He suggested that I should continue my studies. Already knowing what the Indian education system has to offer me I decided that I needed an education that is different from what I had learned earlier. I decided that I needed to pursue my studies in a foreign land to achieve my goals. Between that I started working in Sadbhavna Medical & Heart Institute and after deciding that I want to study abroad I started preparing for my IELTS exams. In January 2018 I took my exam and scored overall 6 bands.
This field requires new ways of education because times are changing and so are the methods of care giving. I started looking for countries providing suitable courses according to my interest. Canada became my first choice because they are recognized all over the world for their excellent education system. Canadian universities and colleges are not only famous for their well-recognized program but all for their friendly educational environment. So I decided to study in Canada.
Fortunately, I got admission into the Academy of Learning. Their personal support worker program mainly focuses on caring for elderly patients. Topics of abuse and safety, cognitive impairment, mental health issues and personal hygiene will be covered, along with the importance of interpersonal skills and respecting the individuality of clients. When my course is finished I can easily find employment within Hospitals, home health care, agencies long-term, care facilities, senior citizen recreation, centers respite and palliative centers, home care, a board of education-special education, private homes etc. This field is growing rapidly as people are starting understanding the importance of personal support workers.
When my visa got refused for the first time I got disheartened but one thing life taught me is that one should never give up on their dreams. So I request the embassy to reconsider my file. I can assure that I’ll give my best effort to be a good student as well as a good citizen.
