The essay on 'Necessity is the Mother of Invention' explores how human ingenuity and creativity are often sparked by the urgent need to address challenges and find innovative solutions to problems.
The history of a specific technology is of significant importance in making more technological advancements. what can be seen in common is that the first technology discovered in any social, economic, or cultural text forms a foundation for better advancements in the same area. For instance, modern photography was evolved based on the first technology in photography in n1837 when Nicephore and Daguerre produced the daguerreotype. On the other visual technology has been at the forefront of changing the world. Notably, the development of the cinema paved the way for more inventions in visual broadcasting. After intensive research and development of the first technology on photography, visual technology evolved significantly. Remarkably, visual inefficiency after the cinema's development was mitigated, and presently, visual effectiveness was achieved. For example, it isn't easy to separate television as an aspect of visual technology from photo-telegraphy. 'Necessity is the mother of invention' change was inevitable in all the social, economic, and political contexts. Consequently, the first technology was a driving factor that led to the need for more developments and innovations. To this extent, therefore, the history of a certain technology is important in creating a foundation for more effective and outstanding developments in the same field.
The development of visual technology was made possible by various factors. For instance, dating back from the 18th century, anti-black racism has played a substantive role in developing and improving visual technology globally. we can see that social, economic, and political factors are highly likely to influence any technology development. Besides, some socio-economic and political needs may create the need for technological advancement. For instance, in Britain, press and visual technology developments happened during crises such as the civil war, industrial revolution, and commonwealth. Anti-black racism led to protests, and this led to the need for effective coverage of the news. Mass coverage and effective presentation of news played a significant role in creating the need for more technological developments in visual technology. Besides, anti-black racism was a major issue of concern after the American civil war and before World War 2.
It is well known in history that a huge population of black people was tired of discrimination, unfair treatment, and disembodiment due to their' blackness.' As a result, they started pushing for reforms, more representation, fair treatment, end of discrimination, and their right to liberty. Strikingly, the move created the need to have platforms to air their grievances covering large geographical areas. During this time, more intensive research and developments were being carried out, and the effective use of visual technology was attained.
Furthermore, visual technology inspired people to air their concerns. Notably, the push and acts of nationalism were inspired by this technology. In fact, as mote technological advancements were made, the need for social and political changes also grew. Besides, the American and French revolutions were mainly due to anti-black racism. These epochs were characterized by discrimination, forced labor, racial segregation, and disembodiment due to color. Consequently, the black Americans retaliated with protests leading to civil wars. Remarkably, technological determinism relies heavily on loose ideas of historical causality. Over the years, anti-black racism fueled the black population's sensitivity to cruelty towards them due to the color. Technology is not an external force, which explains why it is subject to social control.
Conclusively technological determinism has played a significant role in shaping the future of visual technology. Besides, the increased developments in visual technology impact human lives' social, economic, and political contexts. Strikingly, the first technological developments have created a strong foundation for modern technology and, therefore, key technological advancements. Lastly, socio-political issues such as racism, segregation, and discrimination can fuel technological innovations.
