A nursing or clinical procedure is defined as a route of action that is thought out in advance in order to attain a solution in providing healthcare. Nursing procedures are clinical measures that are consistent and are used by nurses to reach a high point in the care of patients. Nursing procedures allow nurses and other healthcare professionals to guarantee that the patients are receiving the quality care that they need. Nursing procedures also keep nurses and other healthcare professionals on duty. Nursing procedures are the best possible multi-professional studying material that covers the advanced and fundamental clinical procedures frequently experienced by healthcare providers. It is also convenient students as well as healthcare practitioners.

Nursing/clinical procedures are intended to assist nurses to respond to clinical circumstances accordingly with a bit of guidance, or none at all, from their co-workers. It is extremely significant to have nursing/clinical procedures part of healthcare. They set up care that is of prime concern so that the nurses or health practitioners are able to work fast in order to support a patient by focusing on crucial matters and thereafter moving on to medical issues that are not as serious. Nursing procedures serve as a checklist that can be used to verify that each stage that is obligatory for the patient’s well-being has been taken into consideration and that these stages have been followed in the correct sequence. These procedures control the maximum amount of hours a nurse has to work in one day, the amount of patients that a nurse can provide care for at once, and the manner in which the nurse must take care of certain executive responsibilities.

These procedures are one of the main practice foundations when it comes to healthcare. This is because it presents a structure for thinking through complications. Furthermore, it supplies a little bit of co-ordination to a nurse or healthcare providers critical thinking skills. It is tremendously crucial to point out that nursing procedures are versatile. It is used in nursing care and it allows for innovation. There are six nursing procedures: taking and recording temperatures, taking and recording pulse, taking and recording blood pressure, using bedpans/urinals, sluice procedure, and recording in the drug register. Measuring the body’s temperature is significant when it comes to medicine. Many diseases are identified by a variation in the body temperature. This lets doctors investigate the efficiency of treatments centred on body temperatures.

Temperature can be taken via the rectum because it is the most internal, therefore the most precise measurement, mouth by putting the thermometer under the tongue, ear or underarm which is the most imprecise measurement. The pulse is recorded to help find out if enough blood is being pumped by the heart, look at the general fitness or health level, look at diseases or medicines that trigger a slow heart rate, help discover the cause of specific symptoms, find out how well the heart is working, and inspect for blood flow if a blood vessel could be blocked or after a wound. Pulse can be recorded by placing a stethoscope over the heart, by placing the index and middle fingers over the radial artery on the wrist, or by placing the index and middle fingers on the carotid arteries in the neck.

Checking blood pressure is the only way to find out if someone has hypertension or hypotension. To check blood pressure, one must wrap the cuffs correctly around the arm, find the brachial artery (the spot from where the elbow bends), place the stethoscope appropriately on the artery, pump the bulb and start measuring. Stop pumping when the needle in the dial is between 150-180 mmHg. A bedpan or urinal is a type of container used by bedridden patients when they need to use the toilet. It may be used for urinary or faecal discharge. To help a patient use a bedpan, put on gloves, roll the patient on their side and put a waterproof pad followed by the bedpan under their buttocks, roll the patient onto their back and onto the bedpan, give the patient privacy and when they are done, roll the person on their side and remove the bedpan. To help a patient use a urinal, put on gloves, ask the patient to place the urinal between their legs. When the patient is done, remove the urinal and wipe the patient's legs with a damp cloth, then dry the area between the patient's legs. The sluice room is where used disposable items are dealt with and where medical equipment is cleaned and decontaminated. Examples of disposables dealt with in the sluice room are bedpans or incontinence pads. There are four main components in the sluice room, namely a sterilized loading area, dirty area for contaminated articles that is separated from the sterilized area, hand washing services, and a macerator for disposable items and a flusher for items that can be reused. Recording in the drug register is important because it involves management exploiting medical and clinical information and expertise and judgement of a qualified healthcare practitioner. The drug register does not involve diagnosing or treating patients.
