On Sunday, June 14th, a nice hot summer day, I got up early to finish my packing and get all my food together. I was getting ready for a week of camping up at Lake Trinity with three of my good friends and one of their moms. Jen and Jo came to my house earlier to help my prepare the food. We were expecting Kate along with her mom to arrive around 8:30, but really turned out that they showed up around 9:00. As they arrived we all scrambled to get our bags and load everything up in the Chinook!! (Kates mini motor home!!!) The coolest ride around! After getting everything situated we began our journey!! Well we didnt start it quite yet, we still had a few stops ahead of us before we were actually on our way!! The first stop was at a safeway in Rocklin, Evonne, Kates mom had to pick up a few extra things to hold us through the week. Once we left there we had to make one last stop at a boat store to find the best tube for boating. We found it, and enormous tube that four people can go on!! It was perfect, there were four of us and a four person tube!!! What more do you need??? We left there around 10:00 and headed out to the freeway! This was the actual beginning of our excursion!!!
Once we left the boat store and got out into open spaces, we only had about four hours of a drive ahead of us!! This was going to be the best road trip ever!! We had tons of food, a t. v, games, everything you needed to entertain four girls!! Everything was going great until about the last 45 minutes of the driving part! We had ate so much that Im sure we all gained at least ten pounds from all the eating we did. It was really not a good thing that we consumed so much food because we were now on a very windy road. For Kate and I it was no problem but Jen and Jo were getting a little nauseous. They began blowing chunks!!! Good thing there was a bathroom in our vehicle other wise we all would have been sick!! It was extremely disturbing because one would be in the bathroom while the other was trying to hold everything in, then they would run to switch and it was just a crazy mess. Well not literally but just them trying to get around each other every two minutes was a bit difficult because the Chinook only had a one person hall going down the middle of it, so it was a tight squeeze!!
We finally arrived around 3:00 and met up with about five or six other familys. our group of girls shared a camp site with Kates uncle and his crew! We decided that we should set up our tent before anything else so that we could get everything situated then go out and let the fun begin!!!! This was probably the hardest thing we did as a group, well not hard but it was very difficult!! There was a cleared spot right down this hill by the camp site, so we thought that would be the best place for our tent!! Little did we know that it was quite the little hill itself!! We had no choice, we had to use that spot, because there was nowhere else near us that we could use! Apparently it was pretty amusing for the adults to watch us, they just sat at the table above and laughed hysterically at us while we tried to figure out how to set this thing up! We really had no clue what we were doing. After 30-45 minutes of struggling we managed to get it up! We didnt realize that our tent was on this slanted ground, until we woke up the next morning!! We all slept facing the same way with our bags above our heads because thats where the door was and we thought that if a bear came in or something it would have to get through our bags before it got to us!! Good idea huh?!?!? Well not exactly!! We woke up with our bags in our faces and our feet almost poking through the bottom of the tent! That was when we noticed we were sleeping on a hill!! The next night we thought hey we can just switch this up a bit and put our bags at the bottom so they would keep us from going through the tent and then nothing would be in our faces!! It was a better idea then the one before only this time we had our feet in or bags, but that was better then the bags in our faces so we decided to leave it that way!!
So after we set up the tent and got everything unloaded we decided that we wanted to go out in the boat just to look at the water and see how the lake was. Ron, Kates uncle took us out to show us around! It was starting to get dark so we headed back up to the camp site so we could eat and then just hang out and do whatever. We had a great dinner nothing that normal campers eat, it was spaghetti!! We were so stuffed that we thought it would be smart to take a walk around to try and walk off all this food! We went down to the "beach" which was actually just rocks and red dirt, but we walked along it down the the dock then headed back up.
The next morning we got up early around 7:30 to head out on the water. This was the day we were going to learn how to wake board and we had to get an early start when the water was calm. Trying wasnt as easy as we thought it would be. All of us tried but Kate was the only one to succeed! We were getting tired so we thought we would just go tubing instead since that doesnt use as many muscles and we actually knew how to hold on, so we thought! Rons boat was having troubles pulling us so we all pilled into the Violetts, which are some friends of Kates family! They had two tubes that could each hold two people so this was going to be even better because all four of us could go out at the same time and we werent stuck in the boat watching! We paired up and jumped into the tubes and were getting ready for our lives to be over. Kate had warned us that these people were the craziest drives ever , but we didnt really believe her. Holy cowshe was right!! They had a death wish for us or something because they were going so fast I seriously thought I was going to die when I flew off! I was the worst at holding on to the tubes and was always the first to fly off!! Although it was scary it was the most fun I have ever had!!! We tubed for about six hours straight taking turns.
We headed up around 7:00 to eat, and reminisce about all the fun we had today!! After we ate we thought we should take some showers, but it wasnt as easy as it sounded. The camp sights didnt have showers so we had to go down to the lake and use it as a bath tub! This was pretty interesting, we had to walk down this very steep hill to get to the water carrying a four person tube and all our bathing stuff!!! Once we made it down there we grabbed all the boat seats we could and floated more then half way across the lake to secure the raft to a booey and began bathing! The water was so cold that once we shaved our legs the hair was already as long as it was before we shaved by the time we got to shore!! This was a very difficult task, but we did it every day so by the last time we had it down to and art! We know what to do like we know how to tie a shoe!!
Again the next morning we woke up early to head out onto the lake. Today was the day we were going to get up and say we know how to wake board! We got our wake up call around 6:30, we would have all jumped up but we couldnt even move!! We were all so sore that it took about ten minutes for us to actually get out of our tent! I seriously have never been so sore in my entire life!! I was happy in a way though because when I am sore I know it is because I worked out muscles that I havent worked out in a long time, but I think I discovered some muscles I never knew I had!! We fiinally made our way down to the lake and out in the water. Kate was the first to go and sure enough it was no surprise she was up and going! I tried after her and got up on my second try!! It was the so incredible!! I was so excited I was screaming and I couldnt even think or hold on to the rope, I just let go! But I figured if I got up that time I could do it again!!! I was right, I got up again, this time I told myself that I wasnt going to let go I was going to hold on till I couldnt hold on any longer!! I was actually doing pretty good, I could go in and out of the wake, but wasnt going to even temp to jump, that would be my next step that I would attempt the next day!! Jen and Jo also got up. It wasnt quite as easy for Jen so she started the knee board! That was what she was good at, so we called her the knee boarding queen!! She was even jumping half the wakes with it!! It was so much fun! We all decided that we were pros at all the water sports we had tried over the last two days!!
To this day I still cannot believe how sore we were, each morning it was a little better but then we would go out again and do everything ten times harder, so we would just be more sore in the mornings! I would definitely say it was all worth it! It I could go back and change anything about this trip, I would only change and incident with my eye!! The second day I woke up but my left eye was swollen shut!! The swelling would go down by that evening but in the morning I wouldnt be able to open it again. I happened for like four days, but then it finally went away and we still do not know for sure what it was!! Oh there is one other thing I would change, the third day we were there we had a mud fight!! It was so dirty and gross, but it was fun. There were I think eight of us, five girls and three boys, we were tackling each other and just making a mess of ourselves!! The thing I would change about it is the fact I had on a pair of boxers that were red, white, and blue, stars and stripes, and the mud stained the white stars so now they are brown, red, and blue!! Nothing to bad but I just wished they were white! Overall this trip was so fun, I am glad I went and I learned so many things. I would have to say it was the best trip of my life, we were gone for seven days and I dont think I could have done anything funner if I hadnt gone!!
